OVERVIEW: Mechanical Design Engineer sought by international market leading technical communications manufacturing company. Permanent job, salary negotiable depending on competency and experience from GBP25K-GBP35K basic, both relatively junior and senior Mechanical Design Engineers are welcome to apply. Location - near Eastleigh, Hampshire

Start date - December / January

Working hours - 8am-4.30pm Mon-Thurs, Friday 8am-4.15pm

THE ROLE & OPPORTUNITY
As a result of expansion my client has a new vacancy for a commercially experienced Mechanical Design Engineer, you may be EITHER a relatively junior OR a more senior level Design Engineer. You will be joining a very established and experienced team of Mechanical Design Engineers and Electro-Mechanical Design Engineers. They are a very friendly team who work collaboratively and enjoy sharing their vast knowledge for each other's mutual professional benefit. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn and develop directly from close-knit team interaction as well as from internal and external training courses.

This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate Design Engineer to report into a Lead Engineer where you'll be given autonomy and freedom to create new concept designs but at the same time you'll receive mentoring and support where you need it. Excellent long-term career promotion prospects exist for strong candidates.

You'll be working in a design office that uses the following programs and tools so if you haven't been exposed to the following programs and tools then you'll acquire these new skills; Autodesk Inventor, ANSYS, 3D printing (Ultimaker 2 with CURA), CNC programming.

Your key objectives will be to carry out the following duties;

- To design, and have design input in the design of, new and existing products.
- To run calculation & FEA analysis programs.
- For those that wish to there are opportunities to interact directly with external customers to identify and gather their product requirements but this isn't imposed if Engineers don't wish to have this level of customer interaction.
- To prepare drawings of the company's products.
- To maintain accurate records of drawings produced.
- To provide support to other departments where drawing office input is required.
- To produce User manuals and sales literature for the company's products.
- To have input into the design and production of labels for the company's products.
- Reporting.
- To undertake any other duties or tasks as requested by the Engineering Manager or Design Team Leader

CANDIDATE PROFILE:

- Degree level or equivalent qualification in a Mechanical Engineering discipline
- 2 years upwards commercial experience working as a Mechanical Design Engineer ideally for a manufacturing company
- Metal materials knowledge - Aluminium / steel / composite
- Solid competency with CAD software packages e.g Autodesk Inventor / AutoCAD / SOLIDWORKS (my client uses Inventor Professional - upgrading to 2016 now
- Solid understanding of FEA principles (experience with ANSYS or any other simulation software is ideal - my client runs ANSYS Mechanical & Workbench)
- You will be at an advantage if you have any CNC programming experience but this isn't essential as training can be provided
- You will be at an advantage if you have any experience with 3D printing but this isn't essential and training can be provided. My client has Ultimaker 2 with CURA.
- Highly practically-minded, creative and innovative WITH your own personal product design portfolio you can showcase at interview to prove this!
- Numerate, able to perform stress calculations using FEA programs or hand calculations
- Good at documenting all of your work
