Independent Board Member – University (1 post) / Third Sector (1 post)

Public Health Wales exists to protect and improve health and wellbeing and reduce health inequalities for people in Wales. Working across sectors, we are committed to continuously improving the quality, equity and effectiveness of the services we deliver and to supporting the wider NHS in Wales to improve outcomes for patients.

To achieve this, we work with organisations across the third sector and universities across Wales, the wider UK and internationally, and consider them essential partners.

To maintain and strengthen our links with these sectors, we are looking for enthusiastic and dynamic people – passionate about making Wales a healthier, happier and fairer place to live – to join our expanding organisation as Independent Board Members.

We are looking for two individuals. One with third sector experience so that this important perspective is brought to the Board. Applicants need to be an employee or member of a voluntary sector organisation with experience of such organisations in Wales.

The other will be someone from within the higher education sector who can bring their experience to the Board. Applicants need to hold a health-related post in a university and have substantial relevant research expertise together with knowledge of health and well-being in Wales, particularly public health.

Independent Members work alongside the Executive Directors to develop the strategic direction, corporate governance framework and organisational culture of Public Health Wales. They will also actively contribute to Public Health Wales’ agenda by developing good working relationships, holding Executives to account and bringing an independent view to the Board.

Public health affects everyone so we are seeking applications from a wide variety of people who have diverse backgrounds. We are particularly interested in hearing from under-represented groups.

Independent Members are appointed for an initial period of up to four years. The post is based on a notional time commitment of a minimum of four days per month. Remuneration will equate to £9,360 per annum.

To apply, go to our website by the “Apply” button on this page.

The closing date is 3 January 2017.
