BMR Solutions is currently looking to recruit a Technical Author to work for our client who is a large manufacturing / engineering company. Job Title: Technical Author Salary: ??30,000 - ??36,000 Location: Clevedon, Somerset Sector: Engineering / Manufacturing / Technical Writing / Documentation Our Client currently have a vacancy for an Technical Authors within the ETO Publications team. As a Technical Author you will write, produce and accurately maintain non-standard addendums and manuals, together with associated addendums/manuals and other documentation to quality standards and house style. You will also have the opportunity to help further develop the processes and styles of our documentation in what is an exciting and busy time for the Company. You should be qualified to degree or HNC/HND in mechanical or electromechanical engineering; appropriate time served apprenticeships or forces experience will be considered. Experience as a practising engineer would be an advantage but must have the aptitude to quickly understand a diverse range of products and their applications. You should be able to demonstrate:o Five years technical authoring experience in an engineering environment either employed by an engineering company or an agency.o The ability to write clear, concise English by producing previous work.o Familiarity with manufacturing delivery environments and associated processes and terminology Any skills in the following areas would be advantageous:o Must have good I.T. skills, especially competence with software running on the Microsoft Windows operating system.o A good working knowledge and recent use of Adobe Framemaker (V9 onwards) and Microsoft Office 2010 is essential, along with experience in writing in DITA XML.o Must be able to accurately interpret mechanical drawings and electrical diagrams, and also data and instructions given by project engineers and technologists.o Must be able to carry out editorial reviewing of work produced by peers.o Must be able to follow processes as instructed by the Documentation Manager. Any skills in the following areas are also beneficial:o Use of Microsoft SharePointo Experience of working in a Component Content Management Systemo Familiarity with extracting images from CAD drawings and 3D modelso Illustration/graphic design/digital photography and photo editing, and the use of software such as Corel o Draw and PhotoPainto Indexing and taxonomyo User interface designo Task analysiso Content developmento Facilitating technical reviewso Formatting and publishing
