Job Title: Health and Safety and Facilities Manager

Location: Slough

Salary: £40,000 - £45,000 plus £5,500 car allowance per annum

Hours: Normal hours of work are based on a shift pattern, working 40 hours per week, between the hours of 8am and 8pm. The company is operational 7 days a week therefore weekend working may be required.

The company is committed to raising the profile of Health and Safety throughout the Organisation and to ensuring that best-practice guidance in all H&S areas is produced, updated whenever applicable and is easily accessible to staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The role entails hands on approach to all health and safety tasks such as developing a long term H+S plan and to monitor and lead the implementation and compliance of this at a local level
  • Providing clear direction advice and training to senior and operational management on their regulatory compliance; Developing and implementing the Companies safety management approach
  • Providing reports to the statutory agencies and the Board
  • Keeping up to date with all developments in best practice and regulations applicable to H+S and advising Senior Management of any impact likely to result from such developments on the business.

H&S Policies and Procedures:

  • Promote and lead good Health and Safety practice throughout all company activities
  • Review the company's Health and Safety Policy Statement on an annual basis
  • Devise, develop and monitor effective Risk Assessment management strategies and make recommendations on the implementation of these strategies
  • Provide independent professional advice and technical information where appropriate to Directors and all line managers to enable the company to discharge its statutory, common and moral obligations, keeping staff and Managers abreast of changes in H&S legislation and Codes of Practice

Monitoring Performance:

  • Propose, implement and monitor measures necessary to comply with H&S legislation and Codes of Practice
  • Carry out or arrange workplace safety audits and ensure that any remedial recommendations are implemented.
  • Ensure that statutory requirements are being upheld throughout the organisation e.g. COSHH, RIDDOR, Display Screen Equipment, Risk Assessments

Casework:

  • Respond to requests for H&S advice/guidance/information wherever appropriate
  • Provide responses to consultation documents from HSE and others wherever appropriate.
  • Maintain the ISO 18001 accreditation achieved by the company
  • Work towards achieving ISO 14001accreditation

Experience, Skills & Attributes Required:

Experience:

  • Relevant experience as above
  • Excellent knowledge of H&S law, legal requirements and Codes of Practice
  • A proven track record of advising and managing H&S at all levels in a commercial environment
  • Proven experience of managing H&S during change program
  • Proven experience of working towards 18001 accreditation and maintaining the status

Skills:

  • A flexible, pragmatic, yet determined approach to H&S matters
  • Commercial awareness
  • Good communication skills
  • Excellent PC skills
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work with and relate to staff at all levels
  • Ability to use initiative, be creative in solving problems and work independently
  • Excellent organisational and planning
  • Ability to take the lead with H&S matters and work autonomously with a business focus.
  • Full and valid driving licence is essential for this role.
