We're looking for a creative individual with experience of designing for responsive websites and web apps to join us as a Service Designer, have input to our digital strategy and help enhance our digital offering.

Our Online team operates as a full-service digital partner for the whole organisation. It manages, designs and develops core digital assets and develops content for a range of online platforms. Digital strategy, design and UX, front and back end development, content production, social media, search and analytics - they do all of this. They also work closely with our in-house digital marketing and creative teams, particularly in planning and delivering multi-channel campaigns and ensuring creative solutions and messaging are designed and applied appropriately to both on and offline media.

Your key responsibilities:


Help make sure Shelter's digital services and products provide the best possible user experience, serve our service users and supporters and maximise return on our investment in digital
Contribute to Shelter's digital strategy in line with our goals, aims, vision and values while serving the best interests of those who use our digital services and platforms
Get to grips with user needs and work with a cross-functional team to create digital products that meet those needs, remove complexity and make things simple
Create a range of product designs and prototypes; contribute to our digital style guide; work with developers to build products and help ensure we are aware of, and adopt, best practice in all we do.


And what you'll need:


Knowledge of service and user-centred design, including an understanding of user needs and business objectives, sketching and prototyping (experience of user research and usability testing an advantage)
An understanding of the principles of web accessibility and their application to design and development plus experience of working closely with web developers
Proficiency using the right tools for the job, including some or all of - Sketch, Balsamiq, Axure, HTML, CSS - and a flair for sketching ideas with pen and paper or on a whiteboard
Familiarity with Agile methodologies and how they relate to design and a proven ability to seek and act upon constructive criticism and constructively review the work of others.
