The Institute comprises over 300 researchers spanning fundamental science through to clinical applications. Our vision is of a deep understanding of stem cell biology for the prevention and treatment of human disease. We are seeking a self-motivated individual with the skills and experience to lead the building services and maintenance team at our main building located in the Centre of Cambridge.

The building hosts approximately 200 researchers from a variety of Institutes/departments and the role holder will assist the Principal Technician with providing front of line building services and maintenance for everyone based in the building. You will be responsible for the complex plant and services on all five floors as well as the associated building services equipment and the coordination of contractors.

The role holder will manage the day to day operation of the mechanical equipment and the steam plant and will organise and control a planned and reactive (24hr) maintenance service for all mechanical and electrical services. The role holder is the first point of contact with the University's Maintenance Unit (MU) as well as other directly employed specialist contractors and will assist in the preventative maintenance and/or repair of our laboratory equipment including electrical testing and fault-finding.

Your expertise in managing plant will be matched with your understanding of a laboratory environment and associated regulations to comply with relevant Health & Safety legislation. You will have a flexible approach to your workload and be able to balance the needs of the research environment as well as work efficiently within a team.

You will have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. You will have good people management skills and the ability to use standard Microsoft software including Word and Outlook. Experience with laboratory equipment is desirable.
