You will be required to work 40 hours from 8.00am to 5pm (Monday to Friday), the nature of the role requires flexibility to work additional hours in order to meet the needs of the business, including possible overnight stays.

Trainee Estimator

To maintain Excalon’s continued growth and expansion plans an opportunity has now arisen within the Commercial department for the position of Trainee Estimator.

This role is ideally suited for a quantity surveyor who wishes to expand their commercial role into estimating and tendering areas

You will be responsible for the commercial management of projects, including cost & sales reporting, early warnings, compensation events, applications and invoicing, final accounts, sub-contractor payments. Role will involve site visits and client negotiation.

As Trainee Estimator you will assist the Bid Manager with new work and compile tender bid packages including take off from drawings, project scope and tender documents, cost modelling and pricing utilising the company cost base and current market prices.

You will be expected to work collaboratively with all work streams within the company including but not limited to Project managers, Site Managers, Procurement, Heath & Safety, Plant & Transport and other business functions.

You will build and develop relationships with companies and project team members in addition to liaising with clients and attending site and client office based meetings when required

What do we expect to see in the Trainee Estimator (QS)?
• QS Degree or similar qualification
• Commercial experience of quantity surveying or similar commercial roles within the construction and civils industry
• Working knowledge of standard forms of contract such as NEC & JCT
• Strong mathematical skills
• Experience in construction industry estimation and commercial software packages
• Proficient with MS Excel, MS Project
• Full valid driver’s licence
• Strong organizational skills
• Experience within the utilities construction industry, such as electric, gas, water, sewers or telecoms etc
