Can you tell your headlines from your deadlines? Do you get goofy over grammar and alliteration? Here's a chance to use your way with words to make a difference in your community. The friendly bunch at St Luke's Hospice Plymouth need a temporary copywriter to take full responsibility for all word wizardry across the healthcare charity's stable of products. Do you have the magic up your sleeve?

Working within the St Luke's vision, the primary objective of this role is to increase the profile and awareness of the charity both within the local community and industry. Working to the highest standards of copywriting and using effective communication skills, this role will work with all departments of the charity to provide a copywriting service covering press releases, feature pieces, branding, promotional materials, internal communications and social media content and advertising. It's a real mixed bag of subject areas including fundraising, retail, clinical services, education and volunteering; and much like the buzz of a newsroom, every day is different.

To get to grips with the role then significant charity or journalistic experience is important, in particular, the ability to tell an emotional story in a careful, concise and compassionate way. You will need to get your head around medical jargon, but also have the heart to reach out to people at some of the most difficult times of their lives. In return, we offer family-friendly scheduling and the opportunity to be part of events that matter, care that changes lives and a working environment that puts people first.

There's no magic formula for the perfect applicant but if you would like to join us for a spell then show us your skills in your extra-shiny application! We're looking for:

  • Significant experience within a Journalism, Communications or Public Relations role
  • Ability to quickly learn and understand unfamiliar subject topics and present them in a copy style suitable for the target audience
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to influence, negotiate and persuade across the organisation.
  • Experience in SEO copywriting would be desirable.

As a staff member of St Luke's you will receive an attractive employment package, which includes 7 weeks annual leave (inc. bank hols) free membership to Simply Health cash back health plan, access to a free employee assistance programme and an occupational pension is provided.

Closing date for applications:  11 December 2016

First Interview: Monday 19 December 2016
