Role Purpose

As HIL Development Engineer within the Automotive Engineering Centre you will be responsible for specifying, developing and maintaining the HIL test systems used to validate production embedded software related to high performance hybrid drive system control units. This includes detailed hardware, software and configuration setup and support to the software validation process.

The role demands a high degree of contact with the application software engineers, electronics hardware designers, other design functions to deliver complex system solutions efficiently and in a timely manner. You will be responsible for ensuring that the agreed systems is function to requirements at the point of delivery and also for ensuring that issues and faults arising are dealt with rapidly.

In this position, the HiL Development Engineer is empowered to act autonomously, ensuring accountability, cost and other key programme metrics.

Role Specific Accountabilities Develop the HIL testing capability of the production software group. Design plant models and communication interfaces to allow detailed closed-loop testing of control ECU's. Specify the hardware and communication interfaces to control ECU's and support the build of custom wiring. Develop the HIL capability to support automatic regression testing of functions and diagnostics. Support and champion software testing best practice. Provide rapid root cause failure analysis solutions to the business Work efficiently to help deliver the best solution possible to the customer. Day-to-day management of their tasks

Knowledge, skills and experience required Essential

Minimum of 3 years in a software development/testing environment, preferably Automotive. Knowledge of the full production software lifecycle including requirements, design, code and test. Excellent understanding of automotive hybrid systems operation Knowledge of dSPACE HIL testing hardware, configuration and setup. Knowledge of automotive communication protocols (e.g. CAN, LIN, Flexray) Experience of scripting languages such as M-Script, Python, CAPL, etc. Use of calibration, diagnostic and measurement tools such as INCA, CANalyzer, CANape. Practical problem solving approach.

Desirable

Experience following a structured development process such as SPICE, ISO26262 or IEC61508.

Qualifications

Essential

BEng/BSc qualified (2:1 minimum) in Degree level or higher in software or engineering related discipline.

Desirable

3+ years post graduate experience in challenging, and relevant engineering environment Chartered Engineer Professional Registration
