Our client, a specialist engineering company in Bristol are currently seeking an experienced Technical/Engineering Buyer to join their team.
Skills & Experience:
* Substantial experience in procurement of OEM machined and B/O parts from a diverse supply base.
* Purchase of machined parts from a subcontract base, which ranges from precision engineering to jobbing shops.
* Ability to understand key priorities and to build relationships with suppliers such that parts are delivered as required for project assembly.
* Handle, what can be a high number of purchase orders in a quick and expedient manner
* Evidence of successful commercial negotiating skills that ensure that costs are minimised at all stages of procurement.
* IT and computer skills to allow rapid and effective communication and timely and accurate analysis (PICS, Outlook, Excel etc).
* Positive attitude and enthusiasm for our customers and our product that will translate into good internal relationships, often under pressure.
* Strategic purchasing experience desirable, but not essential.
Job Description:
* To produce, from computer generated listings and purchase requisitions, all the day-to-day purchasing requirements associated with a major Engineering company. This includes mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, fastenings, steel and plastic components.
* Responsibility for an annual spend of c??1m, all low volume, high variety.
* This job is a key part of our operations and requires good team working and commitment to our overall project commitments.
The following is not a finite list of duties but provides an outline of the types of tasks that will be undertaken:
* Spares department requires a large percentage of the purchasing department time and services. Spares orders are our first priority each morning and must be ordered and cleared before midday every day, and paperwork returned to the Spares/Shipping manager.
* Complete the purchase of the computerised daily order report. The objective is to place all orders for parts before the end of the working day.
* Generate drawings as required to meet the requirements of completing the purchasing transactions.
* Conduct competitive bid exercises to test pricing and sourcing strategies.
* Conduct Supplier audits and appraisals to confirm supplier compliance with purchasing conditions and standards.
* Assist in the development of Purchasing Budgets and price forecasts.
* Maintain supplier KPI's and conduct regular supplier reviews/improvement meetings.
* Generate excel spreadsheets to calculate costs for manufactured parts.
* Progress chase outstanding purchase orders and update the details on the project control board.
* Ensure prompt resolution of pricing queries and invoice queries.
* Ensure all entries have confirmed prices and agreed deliveries to the production schedule, by the end of each working day.
* Discuss all notified price increases and the outcome of any supplier/customer meetings with the Supply Chain Purchasing Manager prior to accepting any final agreement.
* Attend departmental/project meetings.
* Make recommendations/suggestions for areas of improvement to increase efficiency and improve the quality of service provided by the purchasing department.
* Develop good communications with all departments within the company, especially design and production, in order to improve the purchasing department's understanding of internal customers requirements.
* Identify alternative suppliers and sourcing of obsolete/poor availability parts.
* Ensure that all quality rejects are processed and credits secured through the use of the Company's non-conformance procedure.
* Work with others to propose and agree supplier pricing and delivery agreements and constantly seek to improve performance levels on costs, quality and delivery.
* Assist in the development of Purchasing systems and procedures.
* Assist in providing holiday and sickness cover within the dept as required.

* Formal engineering training - preferably time served/HNC.
* Ability to understand engineering drawings/BOMs
