An opening for an Estimator has become available, due to the growth of the business and will be based at our Head Office in Stevenage, Hertfordshire. Role Overview:
To price and submit tenders efficiently, comprehensively and competitively ensuring our commercial risk is minimised whilst providing the best chance of commercial advantage to secure additional workload for the business within the parameters of the roles and responsibilities listed below

Duties include:
• Read, understand and implement the Company Safety, Health and Environmental Policies at all times
• Ensure that all activities within the remit of the job are undertaken in accordance with the QA system
• Maintain the highest level of commercial confidentiality in all aspects of employment
• Ensure that a non-adversarial, non-confrontational and professional approach is adopted at all time when dealing with all internal and external customers
• Check specifications and drawings received against the tender enquiry documents and report on missing information
• Extract Deliverables from the tender enquiry and distribute on standard email template to Bid Team and Senior Management
• Select suppliers / sub-contractors from the ARJ approved list and issue to the Bid Team and Senior Management for comments
• Prepare and send out enquiries to suppliers / sub-contractors selected from the clients preferred list and ARJ approved list
• Ensure through liaison with Estimating Assistant that any new companies are pre-qualified and issued with a company assessment form
• Maintain communications and consult with the selected suppliers / sub-contractors during the tender period
• Attend mid tender meetings with client / professional team and carry out site surveys/visits as required
• Measure works from specification and drawings and create pricing schedules
• Input measure into a computerised estimating system or excel
• Appraise technically and commercially supplier / sub-contractor quotations
• Select most favourable quotation for insertion into tender ensuring all qualifications, clarifications and assumptions have been assessed and normalised across all tendering suppliers / sub-contractors
• Calculate labour rates and apply known factors to labour norms
• Summarise tender build up and print reports
• Engineer alternative solutions to gain a commercial advantage
• Attend tender summary meetings and carry out technical presentations to management
• Advise on areas of risk and produce qualifications and clarifications to limit that risk; keep electronic filing and hard copy filing up to date
• Preparation of tender return and supporting documentation with Bid Team
• Attend post tender meetings with the client/professional team
• Present alternative engineering solutions to the client/professional team
• Maintain and update the estimating department supplier catalogue library and assist Senior Estimator / Senior Commercial Manager in updating the Estimating Programme and Internal Tracker
• Liaise with other departments
• Obtain feedback from Client / Design Team on our tender submission and areas where we may have been un-competitive and feedback to Senior Management
• Seek technical advice from senior construction staff as necessary and consider the use of consultants in the tender submission where it may add value
• Carry out any other reasonable request from your Head of Department / Office Manager
• Attend and participate in Monthly Estimating Meeting and ensure Estimating Assistant takes minutes. Attend more detailed internal meetings as required
• Utilise Forms and Procedures on DLM
• Support Commercial Managers on pricing data as required
• Produce Cost Plans for Feasibility and Concept Designs
• If successful attend internal Tender Handover meeting (Cost Clinic) with Senior Commercial Manager and Delivery Team to ensure the project is fully handed over. Advise on tender margin position and input into the target margin for the project
