Principal Hardware Engineer.

A Principal Hardware Engineer with Linux OS and engineering experience is required to work a permanent basis for our defence client based in Edinburgh.

This is a permanent role working with a leading UK defence company.

Overview of the Principal Hardware Engineer role.

The Electronics Engineering discipline team in Edinburgh requires a Principal Hardware Engineer ECAD Tools Expert with Linux server expertise. The successful candidate will be part of Edinburgh Electronics Engineering team that delivers centrally agreed tools and processes. The Primary focus will be to provide support for the ECAD UNIX and Linux Servers and Firmware, Hardware and PCB tools. It will include setting up user groups and project areas, installing vendor tools, working with vendors to analyse and debug tools, providing proactive support, specifying server architect and contributing to crosssite working groups.

Key skills required for the Principal Hardware Engineer.

The candidate is expected to have current practical experience of the following:

• Have extensive knowledge of the Linux OS
• Provide server and tool support to engineers
• Have an engineering or IT support background
• Be able to write in one or more Scripting languages
• Have basic web authoring/HTML skills
• Prepare and deliver presentations, training and user guides
• Be familiar with version control and configuration management tools
• Keep up to date with new tools and techniques
• Install and configure engineering applications
• Contribute to the improvement of crosssite common processes
• Provide Linux server architect guidance
• Interface with retained IT and CSC as an engineering point of contact

The role is based in Edinburgh - commutable from Dundee, Perth, Glenrothes, Kirkcaldy, Dunfermline, Stirling and Falkirk with excellent access from Glasgow.
