Job Purpose To provide advice, guidance and assistance on all health and safety matters, to all colleagues across the Vet Group, so that all colleagues adhere to current Company Health and Safety policies, procedures and practices. Key Accountabilities Where required you may be asked to check specific issues within the PAH Group (PAH or Groom Room or specialist brand) To be first point of contact for general H&S queries in your allocated area, and respond to any queries or requests for advice and guidance to all levels of management and colleagues. To review and manage all reported accidents and Investigate all RIDDOR reportable incidents To assist in the preparation of any documents required by the pre-action protocols for any personal injury claims received. To provide support and guidance to Area Management and Practices on day to day Health and Safety Issues and in dealings with the Regulatory Authorities, maintaining a database of visits and informing relevant departments where further action is required. To assist in the planned and ongoing review of all health and safety related documents. To assist with H&S Induction of new Colleagues at Practice openings. To assist in the preparation and delivery of training/briefings on health and safety matters, as required. To assist in the production of departmental reports on a regular and ad-hoc basis. Ability to work with other departments within the organization i.e. Practice facilities Have an awareness of the RCVS Practice Standards Scheme and assist in implementation of H&S requirements under the scheme (Desirable but not essential) To be able to communicate effectively with external bodies (e.g., Radiation Protection Advisors) As requested, undertake specific Health and Safety Projects. To assist the Group Health and Safety Manager in ensuring the Company are complying with all relevant H&S legislation. Quantitative information Assist in the implementation of the Health and Safety needs and requirements for all practices Review all reported accidents and enforcement officer correspondence, providing advice and support to Area Management Organise own daily routine with minimal reference and supervision. Advise the business on Health and Safety improvements that are required or desirable Confirm workload with the Veterinary Group Health and Safety Manager Consult with the Veterinary Group Health and Safety Manager, before making and recommendations that have a major impact on business working practices. Creativity and Problem Solving Represent the Health and Safety Department at internal meetings as directed by the Group Health and Safety Manager Recommend appropriate actions to reduce recurrence and lessen the possibility of legal action, following an accident Recommend amendments or updates to policies and procedures to effect legislative requirements within the business Assist the Group Health and Safety Manager and react appropriately to ad-hoc situations whilst managing own workload Encourage and promote a strong Health and Safety Culture throughout the Group, ensuring compliance with legislative and Company requirements. Qualifications/Experience Relevant Qualification NVQ level 3 or 4 in Health and Safety or NEBOSH General Certificate in Health and Safety or IOSH Managing Safely, and working towards one or the above.
