Trainee Accountant - Fire Service

The Finance and Assets Directorate here at Buckinghamshire & Milton Keynes Fire Authority takes the lead role in the formulation of our financial and resource strategies with a view to ensuring that our resources provide the best value for the residents and businesses of the communities we serve.
Our key challenge is to significantly lower our operating costs in response to reductions in Government funding for the Service while at the same time continuing to pursue our vision of making Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes the safest areas in England in which to live, work and travel.
Fixed Term Contract for 12 months
Hours: Up to 22.5 hours per week
£24,943 to £39,379 per annum pro rata
(dependent on qualifications and experience)
You will be responsible for supporting revenue and capital financial planning, budgeting and management reporting across the Service. This will ensure the provision of high quality advice, information, analysis and interpretation to budget holders to underpin effective decision making, meaningful performance management and to meet statutory requirements.
The key experience, skills and knowledge we are looking for are:
- Part qualified or recently qualified with CCAB, CIMA or overseas equivalent
- Experience of working in a fast paced finance department
- Experience of budget setting, monitoring and reporting to board/committee level
- Good communication and presentation skills
- Experience of working with SAP or similar integrated finance and payroll system
- Ability to use Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel
