Offshore Service Engineer

Ultra Electronics, Communication & Integrated Systems (Ultra CIS) is one of the larger UK based Ultra businesses and is operationally run as four business units: AEP, Information Assurance, Secure Communications and Surveillance & Security Systems. These business units are underpinned by a shared services structure which incorporates finance, HR, operations and communications. Across Ultra CIS we provide encryption, network protection, automated payments, tactical and commercial communications and telemetry systems, covert and mobile surveillance systems and situational awareness technology to defence, public sector and commercial customers worldwide.

Job Purpose:
To provide a high level of service to customers by actively conducting installation/maintenance and repair visits for Ultra provided equipment both in office and at customer's onshore sites and vessels.
Scope / dimensions:
Has no supervisory or management responsibility.

Key Responsibilities:

- Responsible for quality and timeliness of own work.
- Assisting in the identification of complex problems and applying diagnostic methods to identify causes and propose possible solutions.
- Providing estimations (time & materials) for tasks and adhering to them.
- Adhering to company practices and policies, especially health and safety and reporting any issues.
- Managing security of information as defined in the Security manual.
- Fault diagnosis and repair of Ultra supplied equipment in Aberdeen workshop and onshore/offshore customer sites, ensuring all testing & records are accurately updated.
- Installing and commissioning of Ultra supplied equipment & systems at customer sites as directed.
- Completing scheduled maintenance on Ultra systems subject to support contracts in accordance with current maintenance routines.
- Documenting all activities as detailed in Ultra QMS, including Site Reports, Defect Reports, Delivery Notes and Job Cards.
- Providing training to customers & other engineers, as required, on Ultra supplied products.
- Liaising with and providing technical support to other departments such as Projects, Production and Development.
- Writing of technical reports, specifications and test procedures.
- Providing telephone and e-mail technical support to customers and Ultra employees as required.
- Offshore duties to be completed as per the on-call engineer rota.
- Plan travel arrangements and maintain records of expenditures for offsite visits.
- Maintain Offshore Survival, MIST and medical certificates.
- Carrying out other adhoc duties relevant to your role as and when required.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

Essential
- Good understanding of IT and networks.
- Basic skills in wiring and mechanical fitting.
- Experience in use of both bench and hand portable test equipment.
- Computer literate.
- Flexible approach to working hours and patterns inclusive of anti-social hours, weekends etc.
- Willing to work overtime if required and to travel to customer sites in the UK and overseas as required.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and at height.
- Positive, can do attitude with logical problem solving approach.

Desirable
- Knowledge of installing, testing and commissioning electronic equipment and systems.
- Current experience of supporting marine electronic equipment on vessel.
- Experience in maintaining unfamiliar equipment/systems
- Knowledge of PTW, Risk assessments etc.
- Experienced in supporting equipment at customer premises.

Qualifications:

Essential
- Full driving licence.

Desirable
- City and Guilds / ONC in Electronics / OND in Electronics / Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
- Offshore Survival, Medical, MIST and any other associated certifications.

- Multi-skilled with can do attitude: Able to carry our Repairs, Testing and Commissioning task even on equipment that is new with minimal training.
