Position: Development Chemist
Location: East Manchester
Salary: Negotiable – Dependent on Experience
Working Hours: 8:45am to 4:45pm, 25 Days Holiday p.a. Accrued Pro Rata & Other Standard Benefits

The Company:
Our client is a successful company, with forty years’ experience in the manufacture of high quality structural protection membranes, coating systems and highway maintenance products.

They are now looking for a hands-on Development Chemist to join them.

The Development Chemist Role:
The main purpose of this Development Chemist role is to manage the formulation, development and physical testing in the commercialisation of new products, including the supervision of manufacturing scale-up.

You will also provide testing and solutions to an active and sometimes urgent Sales Enquiry system.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Development of new products through lab formulating and testing
  • Enhancement of existing products via raw material investigations
  • Ownership of product development projects from initiation/definition through to validation in end-use application
  • Writing data sheets and application guidelines in support of marketing
  • Product performance and compatibility testing in support of active Sales enquiries
  • Completion of projects to deadlines and record management in line with ISO9001
  • Writing Technical Reports and presenting findings within group
  • Maintaining standards of housekeeping and active promotion of safety culture

This Development Chemist position would suit somebody with the following attributes:

Skills & Experience Required:
  • Ideally some lab experience in product development (coatings preferred). However, newly qualified graduates will be considered
  • Experience of acrylic/ epoxy/ urethane chemistry preferred although not essential
  • Experience in physical testing of elastomerics (tensile, elongation, modulus) preferred although not essential
  • Experience in the rheology of polymers an advantage
  • A working knowledge of statistical variation and its role in data interpretation
  • Competency in using MS Excel for data analysis and presentation
  • Degree qualification or equivalent in Chemistry, Polymer Science or Materials Science
