35 hours per week
Temporary up to one year
£24,079 - £26,452 (including Distant Islands Allowance)

Orkney Islands Council wishes to recruit a Marine Tourism Project Development Officer to manage, develop, facilitate and support the growth of marine tourism in Orkney.
This is a dual role involving firstly, the coordination of cruise ship activity during the summer season plus pre and post season forward planning. Secondly, with the increase in profile of marine based tourism and the wider changing tourism patterns in Orkney, identifying new opportunities in marine tourism, and Job Description the challenges and opportunities that exponential growth in tourist visitors brings to Orkney, will be a key component of this post.
The preferred candidate will have a proven background in tourism, strong interpersonal and communication skills, will be a creative thinker, a strategic forward planner and the ability to work flexible hours. A passion for the continued growth of tourism generally in Orkney is fundamental to this post.

The main duties of the post include but are not limited to:

Acting as the recognised contact person and primary inter face for all shore based support services and logistics for each port call, and ensure that all stakeholders are kept informed of any changes to pre-planned itineraries i.e. port call cancellations, time changes or unscheduled arrivals.

Monitor shuttle bus operations at key locations and review demand at peak times
Ensure that all published cruise ship related information is up to date and distributed to stakeholders accordingly.
With the Council’s Economic Development team, contribute to and support initiatives for the management and development of marine based and volume tourism.

You should hold a SVQ3 in a relevant tourist industry qualification. You should also hold a full and current driving licence.
