Solicitor – Legal Services – Property Team
Location : Marischal College
Duration : Permanent - Full time

Job Purpose :
Aberdeen City Council has recently modernised the way it delivers its in-house legal service which provides legal and commercial advice to the Council and public sector partners. Aberdeen City Council is one of Scotland’s largest councils and this is an exciting time to work for Legal Services where successful applicants will have the opportunity of being at the heart of some of Scotland’s most exciting projects including the delivery of the City Region Deal and the new Aberdeen Exhibition Conference Centre.

We currently have permanent full time vacancy for a Solicitor in our Property Team. The remit of the Team is:

Property Team- This team deals with sales and purchases of residential and commercial properties, title checks and reports, Standard Securities, Wayleaves and Servitudes, grant agreements and general advice relating to all property law matters.

Requirements

The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:

Admitted as a solicitor in Scotland holding a Practising Certificate from the Law Society of Scotland.

An up to date knowledge of the legislation and practice in Conveyancing and property law or in Licensing law or in at least two of the areas of law covered by the Governance Team or in Planning and Environmental law or in at least two of the areas of law covered by the Litigation Team

Active representation of the Council’s interests in legal matters to a high professional standard and in a manner which is flexible, accessible, approachable and solutions-focused.
A business partner approach to clients fostering a customer and solutions-focused approach to the delivery of legal services.
Effective building and maintenance of successful working relationships with internal and external partners to secure best value and to provide outstanding service.
Critical analysis and evaluation of information, data and situations to assist in problem solving and the provision of solution-focused advice including the management of risk.
Effective communication skills, both oral and written, to influence and resolve a wide range of legal issues of varying complexity.
Effective Team work and working on their own initiative.
Effective and appropriate prioritisation of work to meet tight deadlines.
Proficiency in analytical, research, investigative and drafting skills
Adaptability to the changing priorities and working practices of the Service and the Council as a whole.
