Reporting to the Operations Manager you will take a managing role in our quality & service delivery to a high profile customer base, ensuring high product standards & quality system conformance is maintained.

The Quality Control Laboratory Manager Role:

Primarily based in Manchester, the manager will lead quality functions across two operational sites along the M62 corridor (Widnes & Manchester), 

80% of the role will involve working a regular, rotating pattern of AM & PM shifts (0600-1430 / 1330-2200) providing front line leadership and analysis at the Manchester site. The site laboratory utilises GC & UV-Vis techniques, KF Titration & RI/Densiometer testing. There will be an occasional but foreseen requirement to work out of hours on bulk shipping operations. Line management responsibility for two direct reports.

This is a position of serious responsibility on two chemicals sites, handling liquid solvents (petrochemicals, alcohols), peroxides, and caustics the role will involve varied duties focused on Analytical chemistry, Quality control. 

Key Responsibilities and Tasks:

The successful candidate will undergo a period of training & orientation. With support from the site Operations Manager & central quality team you will be expected to:

+ Line mange the laboratory team and function. 
+ Liaise with central EHS&Q team around Quality system changes and projects. 
+ Manage the site(s) quality programme(s) and champion the quality requirements of key customers including hosting audit visits.
+ Investigate technical issues & document corrective actions. 
+ Support commercial with technical investigations and problem solving. 
+ Drive continuous improvement & self-audit. 
+ Develop, empower and lead direct & indirect reports. 
+ Exercise prudent cost control and thorough KPI monitoring.

The successful candidate will be personable individual who is interested in developing their career. We will consider applicants at various career stages, though; qualification in Chemistry and/or Analytical sciences would be advantageous. 

The key attributes are: Ability to interact with people, ability to solve product technical problems, confident to make quality decisions. Gas Chromatography experience is an advantage.
