JOB TITLE: Project engineer



SALARY & BENEFITS: Circa GBP25k - GBP30k depending on experience and qualification. Company pension, 26 days holiday and company bonus scheme.



WORKING HOURS: 36.5 hours per week



THE COMPANY: Our client is a leading independent supplier of Power Protection equipment including UPS, Chargers, Battery Packs, Generators etc., these systems range from standard to complex systems and is supplied to many industries including Defence, Industry, Public Sector, Comms/IT, and Export.



THE ROLE: Project engineer (Engineering) - Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire



Reporting to the Project Manager and working within a small focused sales team. The role will involve running a good number of projects at any one time, each project will vary in complexity from simple low value and low complexity projects that require just a few hours management, up to very complex projects requiring detailed gantt charts, Bill Of Materials, multiple suppliers and parts, management of suppliers, manufacturing, design, test, documentation etc, these projects could run for many months and be worth GBP100K+. The role would require you to be able to work as part of the team, but also using your own initiative, carrying out activities to ensure all projects are run on-time, on-budget and especially ensuring customer satisfaction. Talking with customer & suppliers, building relationships is a further critical function.


Key Responsibilities to include:- Project engineer (Engineering) - Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire

  • Managing multiple projects, perhaps 20/30 at any one time
  • Producing Project Program charts using Microsoft project
  • Producing and managing project costing/margin via Excel spreadsheet Bill Of Materials
  • Provide technical support to customers and suppliers
  • Conducting commercial negotiations with suppliers and customers
  • Coordinate with admin, factory, test etc to ensure projects are programmed and on time
  • Produce or edit CAD mechanical and electrical drawings when required
  • Communicating with sales staff, customers and suppliers via email, phone, but with the occasional customer visit as required
  • Preparation of regular reporting material(excel spreadsheets)



THE CANDIDATE: Project engineer (Engineering) - Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire


This role will suit someone who has a technical project/service/admin background, has a competent telephone manner and likes talking to customers. A positive and outgoing personality with excellent interpersonal skills. You would require good computer skills to be able to update databases, produce good quality technical manuals, gantt charts and spreadsheets. It is not essential but it could be advantageous if you have engineering qualifications, ONC-NVQ-A level-degree etc in mechanical or electrical engineering, but a good English and Maths qualification would be needed as a minimum to help with the technical aspect of UPS and Batteries. Training will be provided throughout for all aspects of the position.




Key experience essential for the role:- Project engineer (Engineering) - Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire

  • Experience in a similar role in an Engineering technical projects /service admin background
  • Educated in an electrical or mechanical engineering discipline to ONC/NVQ/Diploma level would be advantageous but is not essential
  • It would be advantageous if you can produce or edit CAD mechanical and electrical drawings but not essential
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience IT user( MS products)
