Job Role:

Our Client is the UK's leading waste-to-energy biodiesel producer and has always been privately owned. Their plant, near Motherwell in Scotland, started production in 2005 and represents an initial capital investment of around £17 million. This was supported by grants from the Scottish Executive and the European Union. The plant has been the focus of an EU project to develop and demonstrate biodiesel production using a mixture of animal tallow and used cooking oil rather than virgin oils.

They are currently looking to recruit for a Team Leader who will be responsible for the process operators within the pre-prep plant, delivering and ensuring maximum plant and Health, Safety and Environmental performance to agreed targets and KPI's.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Operational Activities

  • Leading the team to ensure optimum day to day operational performance to required standards.
  • On call at night and weekends depending on rota/shift pattern.
  • Fill in for senior operators as required
  • Provide practical and hands on assistance to Senior Operator and Operators as required to ensure tasks are carried out to the required standard for both safety and productivity
  • Facilitate real-time management of the manufacturing process, ensuring optimal use of equipment, personnel and materials
  • Liaise with the Production Manager (Supervisor) and Plant Manager to review performance of operators throughout the shift using the PCS and shift walk around.
  • Monitor plant performance and communicate progress against targets to shift personnel.
  • Actively manage the team to ensure KPI's and plant performance targets are met or exceeded
  • Ensure all equipment is kept in good condition and stored correctly
  • Ensure all maintenance issues are raised by the team through Idhammer system and actioned accordingly
  • Ensure all preventative Maintenance is carried out on plant equipment according to the predefined schedule
  • Oversee the work of the Senior Operators and Operators, offering advice, direction and guidance to those on shift
  • Set the standards for team performance ensuring all sampling and testing is done to schedule, as a minimum, and additional testing as required
  • Ensure departmental housekeeping is of a high standard.
  • Ensure all work undertaken is done so in accordance with company policy and in a safe manner.
  • Make clear and prompt decisions considering all risks to process and people.
  • Takes initiative and act with confidence under own direction.
  • Build strong and positive working relationships with the other Team Leaders.
  • Ensure a detailed and precise shift handover to oncoming teams.
  • Provide leadership and clear direction to shift teams at all times.
  • Actively promote a team-working environment and always lead by example.

Qualifications/ Knowledge & Experience:

  • Degree in Engineering or Science discipline would be advantageous
  • Relevant H&S qualification i.e NEBOSH, managing safely

Specific Knowledge, Experience & Skills:

  • Previous experience working in a process plant is essential; with a FMCG, Process, Chemical background
  • Degree in Engineering or Science discipline would be advantageous
  • Relevant H&S qualification i.e NEBOSH, managing safely
  • Previous supervisory experience is required; knowledge of shift working/operation would be desirable
  • Knowledge and understanding of current legislation and compliance, i.e. IPCC, EA, HSE
  • Project management / Best Practice experience; continuous Improvement mentality
  • Candidate must be able to work under pressure, solution driven, pragmatic, with the ability to command respect, motivate a team, and actively promote a team-working environment
