Environmental Safety Engineer - 12 month contract - Somerset
Our client is looking for and experienced Environmental Safety Engineer to provide Environmental safety engineering expertise within the design and safety processes. The Environmental Safety Engineer will undertake all safety activities to develop Environmental Cases and Assessments across a range of defence programmes/platforms. Ensuring compliance with the MoD's Project Oriented Environmental Management System (POEMS), JSP 815, JSP 418, and UK, EU, and international environmental legislation, standards and regulations.
The role has the following key responsibilities:
Develop of strategies appropriate to each project resulting in a cogent Environmental Case which includes as applicable:
Develop Environmental Safety Plans
Develop a register of relevant environmental standards
Identification of environmental safety stakeholders
Produce Environmental Feature Matrices
Carry out and complete Environmental Impact Screening and Scoping Reports
Produce Environmental Impact Assessments and Statements
Environmental Safety Risk Assessment to influence design and usage throughout all affected life cycle phases
Derivation of Environmental Safety design requirements
Develop Environmental Case Reports
Work in Close liaison with other customer and supplier technical disciplines to ensure evidence is available to support the Environmental Strategy
Review and approve supplier Environmental Safety deliverables
Lead Environmental Management Committee and Working Group meetings
Support customer and supplier Environmental Safety meetings
Provide Environmental Safety support to the Safety Programme
Present Environmental Safety inputs to requirements and design reviews
Participate in programme planning and support for Environmental Safety activities.
Identify risks, issues and opportunities
Required competencies:
Candidate should be degree qualified with an appropriate environmental science degree and a member of a recognised Environmental professional body with experience in the application of Environmental Safety in Defence programmes.
The role will have significant UK MoD and wider company interface and therefore a person who is diplomatic whilst being strong minded is required. Some UK and US travel is expected.
