Laboratory Analyst, Somerset, 2 month contract, ??18000 per annum
Our client is a leading food manufacturer who is looking for a Laboratory Analyst to join their team.
Role Summary:
To analyse food and environmental samples for the presence of microbiological contamination.
Key responsibilities:
??? Processing samples for analysis.
??? Plate reading and confirmation.
??? Screening for pathogens and confirming these where found.
??? Reporting of out of specification results.
??? Liaising with the technical/QA functions to provide or seek information.
??? Visiting production areas and the effluent plant to take environmental samples.
??? Assisting the chemistry and PCR work-streams as required.
??? Maintaining CPD (you may need to attend courses off site if required and this may involve overnight trips).
??? General day to day housekeeping which includes cleaning duties.
??? Special housekeeping tasks as required (e.g. deep cleaning equipment or areas of the lab).
??? To inform the laboratory management team of any problems or doubts concerning the ability to perform allocated tests.
??? To ensure that all records are completed concisely and accurately with paperwork written in clear handwriting.
??? To perform analysis within the timescales required and ensure that result availability is in line with method and the expectations of the internal customer.
??? Any other duties as deemed appropriate by the Laboratory Manager
Key skills:
??? A degree in a scientific discipline is considered advantageous.
??? Minimum 5 G.C.S.E or equivalent (including Maths and English).
??? In house training will be provided.
??? Lab experience is ideal, although full training will be given.
??? Experience of plate reading and confirmation of pathogens would be ideal.
??? Experience in a technical role also beneficial.
??? Computer literacy is a must. Excel skills will be of great benefit.
??? Good numeracy and literacy skills.
??? An ability to work without guidance using own intuition, while considering the wider team.
??? Excellent communication skills.
??? An ability to be calm under pressure and work to tight deadlines.
??? Careful and methodical approach to work.
??? An interest in food and food safety.
??? Must be prepared to be flexible and work weekends/after hours.
??? Must be adaptable and embrace change.
??? Motivated to provide a good service
