They are currently recruiting for the position of Principal Naval Architect, based in Bristol.

Job Description

* Engagement with Customers to develop and agree unambiguous statement of requirements.
* Manage risk within the project lifecycle.
* Application of first principles to novel problems.
* Objectively assess different design options.
* Produce design documentation in support of project lifecycle.
* Preparing and checking design documentation as required to time, cost and quality.
* Authorisation of design documentation as required.
* Substantiation of design against requirements.
* Undertake role of Technical Authority in accordance with E&MT Governance Policy.
* Chair and/or contribute to Design Reviews.
* Specification, selection and/or management of external suppliers (component and service) as required.
* Provide practical engineering solutions to problems discovered during design implementation.
* Managing bid responses.
* Representing Group and/or Department as required.
* Management of multi discipline engineering and design teams to time, cost and quality.
* Develop new and existing processes and procedures, across health and safety, and engineering.
* Undertake independent investigations.
* Train and develop self and others.

Skills and Experience

* Engineering degree or comparable academic standard, in relevant discipline.
* To hold Chartered Engineer status.
* Member of relevant professional engineering body.
* Practical knowledge and experience within Naval Architect discipline.
* Recognised expert in field and/or ability to work within complex multi discipline teams.
* Engagement with Customers to produce unambiguous statement of requirements and manage project risk.
* Development of design solutions, substantiated against statement of requirement.
* Substantial experience, of the practical application, of design approaches throughout the project lifecycle.
* Ability to objectively assess different solutions against acceptance criteria (challenge and question).
* Management of project risk within the project lifecycle.
* IT capable; Office, CAD, Paramarine, AVEVA, FORAN, RHINO.
* Understand through life and configuration management requirements.
* Continual Professional Development of self and others within discipline and industry, and evaluate outcomes.
* Good verbal communication skills; chair meetings, facilitate technical discussion at meetings, manage interaction with Customers and Suppliers.
* Good written communication skills; production of unambiguous technical documentation, written communication with Customers and Suppliers, contract specifications, papers and technical articles.
* Ensure the health and safety of self and others.
* Team player, building effective working relationships.
* Experience of working in a design engineering environment post qualifications.
* A working knowledge of legislation, standards and regulations applicable to their discipline.
* Sound knowledge of Company engineering processes and procedures across the design lifecycle.
* Understanding of Ministry of Defence working practices.

This is a permanent position.

The salary for this position is negotiable.
