JOB TITLE: Production Manager

THE COMPANY: Our client is the UK's leading and biggest independent safe and safe engineering company based in Tunbridge Wells. They offer various security products from safes to locks to access control. They now have an opportunity for a Production Manager to join their team on a full-time basis at their manufacturing base in Wolverhampton.

THE ROLE:As a Production Manager, working onsite in Wolverhampton, you will be responsible for maintaining efficiency and effectiveness of all production related manufacturing equipment and processes required to manufacture steel products, in a repeatable and cost effective manner, to ensure and deploy a weekly prioritised work schedule to the shop floor with appropriate time deadlines and targets. Within the role you will also be responsible for the implementation of lean manufacturing/5-S (or similar) processes, all site and plant maintenance, also ensuring that the site is compliant with the Company's ISO 9001 requirements.

Key Responsibilities to include:
  • To drive improvements in all related manufacturing processes including those related to products/equipment
  • To be responsible for the co-ordination of all aspects of Health & Safety and staff welfare within the factory
  • Monitor and review production processes against deadline targets to ensure on-time delivery
  • Manage, train and motivate the shop floor staff to achieve specific and agreed targets
  • To develop employees training matrix and performance appraisal
  • Ensure spend is controlled within agreed budget levels
  • Support, maintenance and development of ISO 9001 Quality Management
  • Implement and maintain planned maintenance schemes for premises, plant and equipment
  • Implement lean manufacturing/5-S (or similar) processes
  • Management of the staff work levels including full control of overtime

THE CANDIDATE: The ideal candidate for the Production Manager position will have a mechanical background in steel fabrication alongside a practical hands on approach to problem solving. You will have a minimum of 3 years' previous work experience within a similar position and have knowledge of good manufacturing processes, tools and concepts. Previous experience within a managerial position is also required within a sheet metal, welding and assembly manufacturing environment. You must have experience of managing budgets and achieving KPI's.

Key experience essential for the role:
  • Mechanical background in steel fabrication
  • Practical hands on approach to problem solving
  • Minimum of 3 years' work experience in this type of role
  • Knowledge of good manufacturing processes, tools and concepts
  • Previous experience is required in a managerial position in a sheet metal, welding and assembly manufacturing environment
  • Experience of managing budgets and achieving KPI's is essential
  • Educated to GCSE level in Mathematics and English or equivalent
  • Lean Manufacturing/5-S or equivalent
  • Experience of managing and maintaining ISO 9001, 14001 and 18001 requirements.
  • Manufacturing, Engineering (including standard operations, plant lay out, waste elimination, continuous improvement)
  • Broad understanding of safety systems and enforcement of safety rules and policies
  • Using continuous improvement/lean tools such as lean manufacturing/5-S, to drive improvement
  • Broad understanding of ISO 9001 Quality Management system
