The Smith & Nephew Expert Connect Centre sets the standard for world-class medical education and surgical skills training in Orthopaedics, providing learning opportunities for delegates from across the globe.Designed for surgical education and exploration, this leading-edge facility provides surgeons with the perfect environment in which to develop, learn and practice the latest surgical techniques relevant to their specific areas of professional interest. The Centre offers a range of training opportunities across the entire Smith & Nephew surgical devices portfolio, including arthroscopy, arthroplasty and orthopaedic trauma. In addition, several courses incorporate educational elements that focus on Smith & Nephew's range of wound management products.The Expert Connect Centre features an expansive, multi-station skills lab that is dedicated to hands-on training and will accommodate single groups of up to 42 participants (or multiple, smaller groups at one time). The facility also features a modern lecture auditorium, with seating for 80 and cutting-edge audiovisual capabilities, along with lounge areas with internet access and refreshments. Duties & Responsibilities: Ensuring that the surgical training sessions are delivered to meet the needs of the customers and the business, including station set-up, provision of all laboratory requirements and practical assistance during trainingProviding expert practical guidance to visiting health care professionals, communicating and demonstrating the use of surgical instruments and implants to maximise the learning opportunities of the laboratory components of training eventsResponsible for all activities associated with laboratory maintenance including equipment upkeep, specimen care, management of consumables and PPE stock and general laboratory housekeeping duties such as regular deep cleansAssisting the ECC's Designated Individual with compliance to the terms of the human tissue licenceWriting and reviewing SOPs and risk assessmentsAssisting with the training of other S&N colleagues, including sales trainingOngoing knowledge development of S&N's products and their use across all business franchisesOccasional national and European travel Knowledge Requirements: At least two years' experience of working in a laboratory, medical or clinic research environment is requiredExperience of working with health care professionals, particularly in a surgical setting, would be highly beneficialAwareness of health and safety precautions in handling biological materialsExperience of handling human cadaveric tissues and working under the terms of the HTA would be highly beneficialKnowledge of surgical products and procedures relevant to S&N's areas of business would also be beneficialExperience of working in a training environment and providing practical training would be an advantage Competencies: Excellent communication skills, both verbal and practicalHighly flexible - must be able to function effectively with evolving needs of the training activitiesExceptionally well organised and self-directed - able to make decisions and act with limited supervisionExcellent team player and contributorVery high level of attention to detail Qualifications Requirements: Educated to degree level in a scientific or related discipline
