Morson Group (Finance Recruitment Division) We are assisting with the recruitment to the position of Group Financial Reporting Accountant, based in Greater Manchester.

Job Purpose

To prepare the Group's Interim and Full year consolidated Annual Report and Accounts and subsidiary financial statements to a high technical and quality standard.

To provide technical accounting and financial reporting expertise to colleagues across the business and support in the provision of relevant technical training and development.

To assist in the management of the year end and half year processes including the external audit process.

Principal Accountabilities

External reporting

Primary responsibility for the preparation of the Group half year and full year financial statements under International Reporting Standards (IFRS) for presentation to the Board and Audit Committee. Managing the external auditors and internal contributors. Ensure legal and technical requirements, quality standards and deadlines are met and that there is sign-off from external auditors.
Preparation of the full year financial statements under new UK GAAP (FRS102) for 40+ legal entities. Managing the external auditors and internal contributors. Ensure legal requirements, quality standards and deadlines are met and that there is sign-off from external auditors.
Preparation of detailed notes to support key accounting items and year on year comparisons.

Technical accounting

Provide complete, accurate and timely IFRS and new UK GAAP (FRS 102) accounting expertise and advice. Maintain a strong knowledge base utilising this to evaluate potential impact on the group Accounts and identifying appropriate accounting treatments and options. Provide on-going accounting support to divisional finance teams / FP&A / commercial teams to ensure any accounting implications are factored into any commercial decisions appraisals and impact on reporting is understood - with options where possible to be presented.
Responsibility for the development and maintenance of accounting policies and support the governance of financial processes, ensuring standards and accounting policies are aligned across all legal entities. Policy standards are recorded in the clients, Accounting Policy Manual with guidelines and further articulation of how policies should be observed and applied.
Assist in the development and delivery of training refresh for accountants for the client to ensure awareness of new accounting standard changes, appropriate recording of financial entries and compliance with accounting policies.

Other key activities

Support the broader financial reporting agenda as required from time to time, ensuring clear communication lines and work together as a high performing team delivering a centre of excellence for financial reporting and benchmarked against Groups of a comparable size.
Support other finance projects linked to the clients ambitious UK and international growth strategy.
Knowledge, Experience and Skills

Qualifications / Experience

ACA qualified accountant, 1-2 years post qualified min
Technically strong in IFRS and new UK GAAP accounting
The post-holder will be a pro-active individual with a keen interest in developing their knowledge of other areas of the business and fully aware of the importance of providing an excellent service to key stakeholders within the business and across finance.


Excellent interpersonal, management & influencing skills. Can influence at all levels in the business in order to engage the co-operation of people who are not direct reports.
Good project management experience and skills
Able to work to deadlines and manage priorities
Good verbal and written communication skills
Seeking to instil a culture of continuous development and process improvement

IT / systems

Advanced Excel and experienced in Microsoft Word
Good experience of working with and developing finance systems and of coaching staff in the use of these


Experience of implementing new financial systems and of developing systems to improve efficiencies
Knowledge of SAP financials
