Our client, a Eurpoean leading insurer, with offices in the City of London, specialise in niche areas of private client and commercial risk.

Recruiting for a Commercial Underwriter to provide technical expertise, rating and product design across the General Insurance product range. Also having responsibility for Underwriting and pricing commercial combined and retail packaged products, with a focus on commercial property

Key Responsibilities within this role:

• Management of Delegated Authority arrangements across different property classes
• Provide technical expertise on both ongoing and new schemes to employees and cover holders
• To ensure compliance with Binding Authority Agreements and ensure all findings are actioned as appropriate
• Ensure that Commercial Underwriting guidelines are set and met, monitored and managed to achieve target underwriting margins.
• Supporting the auditing of cover holders.
• Responsible for implementation, launch and on-going account management of all schemes.
• Be actively involved in monitoring account performance and assess profitability against target loss ratio and underwriting costs and expenses.
• Technically adept in respect of product documentation particularly policy wording construction.
• Dealing with policy and underwriting queries from cover holders
• Reporting on performance of schemes and products
• Understand best industry practice and use this to develop underwriting capability
• Good understanding of internal and external environment and role of bodies such as FCA, ABI, MBI, ELTO, etc.
• Manage the successful implementation of agreed product changes via liaison with internal and external stakeholders
• Understanding of reinsurance placements Quota share, Excess of Loss etc. and application on products and cover holder schemes.

Who are you?

• To be considered you must have a minimum of 5 years' experience working as a Commercial Lines Underwriter.
• Must have experience of working with delegated authority schemes
• Commercially minded but working to agreed authorities
• Strong customer service with a professional attitude and approach needed.
• Experience of portfolio analysis, management and reporting as well as case level underwriting experience.
• Excellent organisation skills, very strong analytical, oral and written communication skills required. The ability to meet tight deadlines is essential
