Join our team! Be a Support Worker with United Response in Portishead, North Somerset

We are three young men living in Portishead and sharing a house together.  We've known each other since school days and have been housemates for six years now.

We enjoy swimming, dancing, gym, horseriding, hill walking, art and drama and we have some work commitments too.  We have a car and use buses so we like to get out a lot, but also do the usual things like shopping, cooking and housework!  We have learning disabilities and some health issues that are managed as part of our lives.  We are supported by a team of people who help us live as independently as possible and we are looking for someone to join that team and work with us.

People who work with us tell us they enjoy working at our house and sharing in our activities.  They are men and women of different ages and experience.  They get training from United Response who employ them and they get to know our families too.  They work flexibly as part of a team.

Who we are

United Response is a leading national charity providing support to young people and adults with learning disabilities and mental health needs.  We believe in championing the right of disabled people to live, work, socialise and participate in the community, free of discrimination and unnecessary boundaries.

Who we are looking for

We need reliable and passionate people to join our close-knit team of Support Workers, supporting people out in the community, as well in their own homes.  You’ll help them cook, clean, pay bills, apply for jobs, make friends and a thousand things in between.

Don’t worry!  Those new to care will be fully supported.  Our comprehensive training programme offers everyone – regardless of previous knowledge and experience – the chance to create a career they can be proud of.

What we need from you

You need compassion, integrity and to treat people with dignity and respect.  You need to be reliable because people are depending on you, be able to travel between locations and work flexibly, including evenings, weekends and overnight as needed.  You also need to be a great communicator, both verbally and in writing and have basic IT and numerical skills.
