Chair of Board of Trustees

Hertfordshire Citizens Advice Service

(This is a voluntary post, but expenses will be covered)

Our client, Hertfordshire Citizens Advice Service (HCAS), is a legally formed consortium to support the ten Local Citizens Advice in Hertfordshire.

Operating at a county-wide level, HCAS will draw on the expertise of its members to deliver projects across Hertfordshire.  It will also provide a single point of contact to apply for funding not accessible to an individual member.  As part of Citizens Advice Service, the Consortium will support its members in achieving the aims of Citizens Advice: to provide free, independent and confidential advice to everyone.

HCAS requires an independent Chair to start in the first quarter of 2017 to drive the consortium forward and play a crucial role in implementing its three year strategy. Understanding of Citizens Advice work is an essential requirement.

As chair you will have the responsibility to the Trustee Board and have the responsibility to provide leadership and direction within the Trustee Board.

Other responsibilities to include;

• To discharge the responsibilities of the chair to the trustee board

• To proactively communicate and engage with the 10 Citizens Advice Bureau in Hertfordshire

• To broaden awareness of the charity’s values and priorities; and increase its visibility across a wider audience

As our ideal candidate you will have supported a charity or other voluntary organisation and acquired an understanding of the challenges faced by organisations like Citizens Advice, particularly in relation to securing funding in a difficult economic climate.

The role involves influencing Councils and other bodies in Citizens Advice funding applications, so you will bring an established network of local contacts in the public, private and voluntary sectors. Preferably you will live in or near Hertfordshire.

Drawing on previous experience, you will demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills when leading Board meetings and ensuring that Board decisions are implemented as agreed.  A track record in sound financial management is essential.

We require a motivated and enthusiastic individual seeking an opportunity to develop and lead a Consortium devoted to supporting the increasingly vital work of the Citizens Advice service in Hertfordshire.

This is an interesting and challenging opportunity to influence the development and implementation of the Consortium.

Hertfordshire Citizens Advice Service is an equal opportunities employer and encourages applications from all applicants who meet the person specification irrespective of sex, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership status, pregnancy and maternity, sexual orientation, race, religion or belief, age, or disability.

If this sounds like the opportunity for you, please apply ASAP...

*PLEASE NOTE – by applying to this position, you agree for your CV / Cover letter to be sent to HCAS, who shall contact you directly, should your application make their short-list.  Acapella Recruitment are working in partnership with HCAS, on the initial stage of the interview process (CV-filtering-only)*
