The Role Due to continued growth and opportunity Edif ERA have an opportunity for a talented Principal Safety Consultant with a strong background in Railway Systems to join the Safety Team. Working with a team of Functional Safety Consultants you will be launched into a variety or Railway Systems projects with the opportunity to work across other sectors including Defence & Security, Nuclear, Power and Oil & Gas. The role will be based at the Leatherhead or Bristol office when not supporting UK customer's onsite. Worldwide travel is possible as is home working when practical. Our expert safety team have a rich history of supporting its clients in the provision or acceptance of functional safety assurance for complex systems. For railway systems projects, this includes Independent Safety Assessment (ISA) and Independent Software Assessment (ISwA) services or conducting system safety engineering on behalf of a project. With the advent of the European Common Safety Method for Risk Evaluation and Assessment (CSM RA) Regulation, the scope of our railway safety assurance service line has been enhanced to include Assessment Body (AsBo) services; Edif ERA is amongst the first tranche of UK AsBo service providers that has been accredited by UKAS. We are therefore expanding the size of our team of Principal Functional Safety Consultants to cater for the predicted increase in demand for our railway assurance services. Role and Responsibilities Execute technical tasks and prepare technical reports within the broad domain of functional safety assurance in accordance with project needs Communicate with client representatives and other Edif ERA staff and / or Associates Contribute to technical and commercial aspects of project proposals Assume the following roles when nominated: Lead Assessor for independent assessment projects, Project Manager and Bid Manager Potentially work on projects across multiple market sectors sharing skills and experience with Consultants from other service lines Conduct business development activities, including client meetings and preparing / presenting conference / seminar papers Contribute to the continual development of Edif ERA working practices and procedures and staff (including own) competencies Skills, Experience & Qualifications Experienced in working with railway systems and equipment, especially signalling and signalling control systems (ERTMS / ETCS, CBTC, Traffic Management Systems, legacy signalling) and rolling stock, traction power supply systems, track, and station systems Strong working knowledge of railway industry safety legislation, standards and guidance (Safety Directive, ROGS, CSM for RA, EN 50126, EN 50128, EN 50129, EN 50159, RSSB Group Standards and Guidelines, iESM, Network Rail Company Standards, London Underground standards) Skilled in applying industry safety risk models (RSSB Risk Model, LU QRA) Knowledge and experience of applying functional safety principles, methods, techniques and tools: Reducing risk SFAIRP / ALARP Derivation of required SIL(s) Specification and design techniques and notations Hazard identification and risk analysis techniques (FTA, ETA, FMECA, Bow Tie Analysis) Test case design and test coverage metrics Experience of methods and techniques used to formulate and communicate an argument (GSN, Claims Argument and Evidence) An honours degree in a science or engineering subject, a post graduate qualification in safety engineering is desirable Chartered Engineer status and Membership of an engineering professional body (IET, IRSE, SaRS) is desirable Behavioural Competencies Able to establish excellent working relationships with customers and colleagues Meticulous planning skills with highly developed organisational and time management skills Able to present ideas successfully with strong negotiation and persuasion skills High quality standards with focus on service delivery and excelling customers' expectations Excellent report writing skills able to apply a tailored approach to meet customer needs Strong analytical and numerical skills able to produce workable solutions to problems Flexible, able to adapt to changing client and/or business needs Empowers, motivates and supports teams whilst obtaining the best from others by inspiration and leadership
