The work of the union is supported by the centralised functions of National Office, which is split between two sites, one in central London and the other based in Paisley. The GMB’s IT department is based in our Paisley office and supports every office and remote user of GMB hardware and software across the U.K..

The department is undergoing of period of growth and now has a new an exciting opportunity for the right individual to join the team as a First Line Support Engineer. The post-holder will provide first line support to all GMB staff who contact the department with the aim of assisting or resolving issues and queries relating to GMB software and hardware.

The ideal candidate will need to possess good inter-personal skills, as a large part of this role will involve communicating with others, explaining sometimes technical language in a clear and understandable way. You’ll need to have a proven track record of supporting others, either remotely or in a helpdesk environment, with previous diagnostic experience a distinct advantage. Excellent attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy would be beneficial.  

The most important criteria is someone willing to learn and grow in the role, as this is a great opportunity for the right candidate to develop their technical skills and knowledge in a supportive team and environment.

The post is offered on an initial 6 month fixed term contract, with a remuneration of £19,866.60 per annum (subject to job evaluation).
