Our client is a medium to large Further Education College based on a single 23 acre campus in the market town of Wellington. Providing much of its provision in community venues and on employers’ premises, the College annually recruits in excess of 20,000 students and is the largest provider of further education in Shropshire.

An excellent opportunity has now arisen for a Maths Lecturer to join their cross college Mathematics and English team on a full time, fixed term basis to provide cover for maternity leave.

Supported by the Head of School and Director of 14-19 provision, their ideal candidate will offer excellent GCSE and Functional Skills delivery to a wide range of full-time learners, through innovative and engaging teaching, learning and assessment practice.  Through your proven record of a learner centred approach you will be able to demonstrate your abilities to stretch all learners’ potential, from varied starting points, and secure positive outcomes.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Offer an enthusiastic and effective contribution towards the development of learners Maths skills and qualifications achievements.
  • Deliver high quality, learner centred, teaching, learning and assessment.
  • Ensure all learners are able to make effective progress through the administration and monitoring of core duties including; initial diagnostic assessments, ILP’s, learner profile, attendance, punctuality, preparation, marking, effective feedback, exam preparation, curriculum development and supporting appropriate intervention.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Possess a teaching qualification or willingness to obtain
  • Possess relevant subject degree (or equivalent) qualification
  • Has teaching experience in GCSE and/or Functional Skills Maths
  • Has good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Offer positive and proactive contribution to the Maths team

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, pro-active and ambitious for learner’s potential.  You will possess a teaching qualification (e.g. Cert Ed, PGCE or DTLLs) or a willingness and ability to attain these qualifications with the support of the College. You will also have experience in teaching GCSE and/or Functional Skills Maths and possess an appropriate degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject.  In addition, experience of working within a post 16 setting would be beneficial however isn’t essential.
