Carlton Recruitment is pleased to announce that our dynamic client is currently seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and well-organised individual with sound scientific knowledge to provide technical support in a successful and developing Science department. Your role will include:

• Assisting in the efficient running of the laboratories, ensuring the availability of the equipment and resources - specialising in and responsible for KS3
• Maintaining a clean and orderly environment, including the preparation of equipment and materials such as specimens, chemicals, health and safety information, computers, software, books, worksheets and audio-visual equipment

Key responsibilities:

• Preparation and supply of lesson materials for the science curriculum at KS3- Including making up solutions assembling apparatus and delivery and collection of equipment to rooms/ stores as required
• Maintaining stores of chemicals in accessible, useable and safe manner
• Researching new resources and practical experiments and constructing new pieces of equipment
• Undertaking minor repairs/cleaning on equipment
• Setting up and testing of ICT and data logging equipment
• Provide technical support and advise to teachers, trainee teachers and students including Health and safety requirements (teaching staff being ultimately responsible in the classroom)
• Keeping up to date with health and safety requirements and carry out regular health and safety checks on laboratories, prep rooms, stores, equipment and PPE
• Carry out risk assessments for technician activities and workspace
• Maintaining clean and tidy laboratories in cooperation with the teacher in charge of that lab including the cleaning of laboratory sinks
• Assisting teaching staff in practical lessons as requested and undertaking demonstrations if required
• Organising and maintaining strict stock control systems and arranging for orders to be placed and deliveries/invoices to be checked to ensure the appropriate resources are available
• Local purchase of materials when required
• Organisation of filing systems for worksheets and assessment materials for KS3 schemes of work including liaising with reprographics to ensure the timely production of resources
• Supervision of students on trips and when offsite
• Provide first aid following required training
• Work collaboratively across departments with colleagues and students to ensure the school operates as effectively as possible to achieve its aims

• IT literate - understanding and able to deliver personal DSE assessments
• Professional and business-like at all times alongside being able to maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students and parents
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Proven ability to multi-task in a busy working environment
• A positive 'can do' attitude, with a confidential and discreet approach
• Conscientious, diligent and hard working
