JOB TITLE: Engineering Technician


SALARY: GBP16,800 to GBP19,655 per annum


BENEFITS: Access to the NHS Pension scheme


CONTRACT: Temporary 2 year contract


WORKING HOURS: Full-time (37.5 hours per week) Monday to Thursday 8.45am - 5pm, Friday 8.45am - 4pm

THE COMPANY: Our client is a leading Orthopaedic provider and established Foundation Trust. They are currently looking to recruit an Engineering Technician required in the Orthotic Research & Locomotor Assessment Unit (ORLAU), based in Oswestry, Shropshire. This department has an international reputation for its work in providing assessment and rehabilitation services for people with mental and physical disabilities.


THE ROLE: The Engineering Technician post offers a range of varied and interesting tasks in a well-equipped workshop and the work involves the manufacture, customising, servicing and supplying of a range of mobility equipment to patients with moderate to severe levels of disability.
ORLAU Engineering Technicians work closely alongside clinical staff, mainly physiotherapists, and have regular contact with this sometimes challenging patient group.

Key responsibilities of the Engineering Technician to include:
  • Identifying, agreeing and realising technical specifications for highly specialist patient mobility aids
  • Devising and developing innovative solutions to meet specific individual patient requirements
  • Assisting the process of development and manufacture of prototype & bespoke devices
  • Managing your own workload by determining, in conjunction with the Senior Engineering Technician, appropriate priorities.


THE CANDIDATE: The successful candidate for the Engineering Technician post will have machining experience (i.e. lathes and milling machines) and will be able to demonstrate skills at bench fitting & assembly. You should hold a BTEC National Diploma/Certificate or a City & Guilds Mechanical Engineering qualification (or equivalent).
