Salary: £8.36 per hour

Hours: Cook Sat & Sun 9.00a.m. - 2.00p.m. - 10 hours per week (Croydon)

Kitchen Assistant Sat & Sun 9.00 a.m. - 2.00p.m. - 10 hours per week (Croydon)

Kitchen Assistant (Temporary Maternity Cover) Sat & Sun 10.00a.m. - 7.00p.m. - 16 hours per week (New Addington)

The organisation is a charitable Housing Association formed in 1981 to assume full responsibility for the housing and homes for the elderly provided by the Croydon Guild of Voluntary Organisations, now known as Croydon Voluntary Action.

They're now looking for a Weekend Cook and Weekend Kitchen Assistants to join their catering teams in Croydon and New Addington to deliver an excellent catering service to the organisation's clients.

Kitchen Assistant:

As part of the Catering Team to assist in the kitchen as instructed by the Chef or Cook including:

  • Preparation of food
  • Straightforward food cooking and preparation of snacks
  • Preparation of drinks and hot beverages
  • Transporting food to the residential clusters and on-site Day Centre
  • Serving food and beverages
  • Laying dining tables
  • Clearing dining tables and washing crockery and cutlery for re-use
  • Assist with stock control and the cleanliness and tidiness of storage cupboards
  • In the dining areas to be responsible for sweeping the floor and wiping down of tables and chairs to maintain the required standard of hygiene
  • Deliver meals to residents using wheeled heated hot cabinets


  • Catering experience in a commercial kitchen
  • Level 2 (minimum) Food Hygiene & Safety Certificate or equivalent
  • Ability to follow instruction
  • Supportive of a charitable, caring organisations aims and values


  • CIEH Level 2 Food Safety Certificate (or higher)
  • Health & Safety / COSHH training certificate


  • To control and order provisions, liaising with the House Manager, and assist with budgets.
  • To prepare and cook one meal a day, ensuring a balanced diet with special attention to individual dietary needs, Saturday to Sunday.
  • To ensure variety and presentation to include seasonal fresh produce.
  • To comply with current Food Hygiene regulations, environmental health requirements and Health & Safety at Work requirements.
  • To adhere to stock control procedures as laid down by the House Manager including rotation of stored foods i.e. frozen, fresh and dry packaged.
  • To ensure proper storage of food, and food in damaged packaging to be transferred to new containers as promptly as possible.
  • To be responsible for the cupboards, equipment and utensils and the cleaning of same. Reporting any breakages or problems to the House Manager for remedy.
  • To supervise and be responsible for staff who enter the kitchen area. No tenant is permitted in the kitchen.
  • To report to the House Manager any concerns and observations concerning tenants and their meals.
  • To be familiar with the Fire Drill and assist care staff in the event of evacuation or other emergencies.
  • To carry out any other duties reasonably requested by the House Manager.


  • Experience of working as a Cook in a commercial kitchen
  • CIEH Level 2 Food Safety Certificate (or higher)
  • Supportive of a charitable, caring organisations aims and values


  • Professional Cookery qualification
  • Health & Safety / COSHH training certificate
