Learning Support Assistant - Primary Objectives:

As part of our client’s dedicated and enthusiastic team, you will support students from a range of different backgrounds with vision impairment to effectively access their courses within one of their mainstream partnership colleges in and around Bromley or from the residential houses on study days.

You will promote the students' independence in learning through the production of adapted classroom resources, including Braille, and provide classroom support or supported study sessions for a wide range of courses each day.

Key Tasks and Main Duties:

• Support the delivery of learning programmes delivered at one of their partnership colleges or from the residential houses on study days
• Support the students to develop independent study skills and further develop their independence in wider contexts
• Have a clear understanding of individual student needs and use ICT and other technologies to adapt and produce classroom resources in student preferred mediums
• Build positive relationships with key staff at their partnership
• Encourage students to make their own decisions and take responsibility for their own learning, care and support, in line with college policy
• On occasion, take responsibility for organising stimulating activities in the house and community that meet the students’ needs and interests
• Track and record student progress and achievement in line with College processes and within timeframes set
• Efficiently implement all administrative tasks in the timeframe required
• Support and promote the use of ICT and adaptive technologies into learning activities
• Be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of the Society’s students/ beneficiaries and all other children and young people/ vulnerable adults that have contact with the organisation, challenging any poor practice

Person Specification:

Educational or Professional Qualifications - Essential:

• A Levels, Level 3 NVQ in a related subject (e.g. Learning Support) or other Level 3 qualifications
• GCSEs or equivalent
• Minimum of Level 2 Qualification in English and Maths
• Good IT skills


• Grade 1 and/ or 2 Braille
• Qualifications at Level 3 and above 

Skills, Experience and Knowledge: 


• Experience in an educational or care setting and in a support role
• Experience of and confidence in working with young adults with Autism
• Knowledge of the Common Inspection Framework
• Ability to use basic ICT software and functions, particularly word, excel and outlook
• Motivated to increase skills and follow training and self directed CPD programmes, including learning Braille
• Full driving license and willingness to drive society vehicles
• Demonstrable commitment to the developing work of both the College and the RLSB and a flexible approach to working hours and location


• Experience of working with young people with vision impairment
• Experience of working with young people with vision impairment and other learning needs and/ or disabilities
