Mobility and Habilitation Specialist - Primary Objectives:

To participate in community projects to provide specialist habilitation and mobility input. To undertake mobility training with blind and partially sighted CYP and adults in the community. To provide sighted guide training to staff, BPS people’s families, other professionals and universal services providers.

Key Tasks and Main Duties:

• To deliver community based habilitation and mobility contracts as required
• To participate in broader life skills, social inclusion or independence skills projects providing habilitation or mobility specialism to the project
• To participate in community projects to provide sighted guide training to BPS people’s families, other professionals and universal services providers
• To assess individual clients’ needs and prepare appropriate individual development plans as required
• To risk assess all activity in accordance with Society requirements and to maintain all appropriate records
• To undertake mobility and route training with blind and partially sighted people ensuring clients’ safety. Most work is done on an individual basis although it may be possible to do some group work, when and where appropriate
• To maintain all appropriate records of client progress
• To maintain and report on all inputs, outputs and outcomes as required to satisfy contract management requirements
• To liaise with other professionals in the field as required to provide a joined up service to the client
• To act as a consultant in all areas of Habilitation and Mobility, including in-house training of staff and regular evaluation of implementation to ensure best practice at all times
• Be required to work during the evenings and weekends to deliver projects
• Ensure that equality and diversity is embedded in all activities
• Be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of the Society’s learners/ clients and all other children and young people/ vulnerable adults that have contact with the organisation

Person Specification:

Professional Qualifications:

• Nationally recognised qualification in Rehabilitation (DipHE Rehabilitation)
• Minimum of L2 literacy and numeracy qualifications

Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

Essential:

• Significant experience of working with children and young people
• Working on a one-to-one and group basis
• Working with staff from other disciplines in providing assessments
• Providing training programmes to Adults and specialists in different sectors
• Liaising with other Rehabilitation Specialists working with the same client
• Working with a wide range of disabilities
• Flexibility and adaptability
• Tact and diplomacy
• Ability to organise and co-ordinate
• Ability to evaluate the quality of habilitation services delivered by others
• Excellent customer and client focused skills

Desirable:

• Experience of working in a range of different environments

Post: Mobility and Habilitation Specialist
Reports To: College Manager
Part-Time – 13 hours per Week
Salary: £9,164 (pro-rata, full time equivalent - £26,082)
