This is an opportunity to join a young company that maps the seas using crowdsourcing with boats and ships. Having sorted the technology, they are now ready to significantly grow the number of participating boats. They need the right person to drive this, as they launch their new web site and roll out tools for improved management of participating boats.
The job is primarily to create a global community of boats participating in the company, using digital marketing, social media, press releases etc. to raise awareness, getting people to participate, and supporting them as they participate. You will be presenting the company in a non-technical way, showing people what it is about and why they should participate. Whilst most participants to date are leisure craft owners, they will expand this to include fishing vessels and ships. To help things scale, you will work with their IT team to automate processes. You will also be involved in the launch of new products and services, some of which will use Kickstarter.
Duties
- Creating online and print publicity
- Engage in discussions on social media
- Plan and attend boat shows, exhibitions, conferences etc.
- Support and encourage their crowd of boats
- Provide feedback to the developers
- Plan and lead execution of Kickstarter campaigns for launch of new products
Skills and Qualifications
- An outgoing, enthusiastic person that will enjoy building a community.
- Fluent in spoken and written English. Other languages are also an asset.
- Knowledge of boats to be able to relate easily and converse with boat owners. A knowledge of marine print and online media is also useful. Some understanding of marine electronics, e.g. using a chart plotter, is also a benefit.
- When in a public facing situation you will be presentable and personable.
- Skilled in planning, organising and executing activities and campaigns
- Able to present technical topics to non-technical people, and identify what will make them interested
- Competent in Microsoft Office and also in tools such as, or similar to, Bitrix intranet, DNN CMS, Active Campaign, SurveyGizmo, Hootsuite, and Google Analytic.
- Take pride in paying good attention to detail, enjoying producing clear, compelling interactions with people.
Working in the company
They are a team of 7, operating as a virtual company. All staff work remotely and, as far as meetings and other work events permit, can do flexible hours. This requires someone who doesn't have to go to the office to get into work mode, and doesn't need face to face contact with colleagues.
You may need to attend project meetings, and represent them at exhibitions, conferences etc.
Being a small company, your activities will have a direct effect on their results. You will have a high level of responsibility and autonomy, and will be able to grow with the business.
You may be based in the UK or any other EU state, so long as it is not too onerous or expensive to set up the necessary structure for employing you in your country of residence.
