Position: Documentation / Configuration Manager

The Company:

Our client is a leading global supplier of security inspection systems. Since 1993, they have installed over 70,000 products in more than 100 countries. Their systems are in use at airports, government and corporate buildings, postal facilities, military zones, sea ports and border crossings. 

The Documentation / Configuration Manager Role:
The Manager of Documentation and Configuration Management plans, coordinates and manages programs and processes designed to ensure effective management and implementation of the company documentation and configuration management processes. A proven track record of success in the Security Systems, Aerospace, Medical Device or similar, regulated industries is a must.  

This position is responsible for managing and executing the global quality strategy for documentation and product configuration management, and overseeing configuration management for government programs.  Responsibilities include managing the planning and implementation of the company Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system (Agile); development and implementation of related corporate processes, process maps, procedures and tools; and oversight of the global document control and configuration management activities.

This position will also be responsible for leading the global implementation and integration of Agile with the company Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and other operational systems.

Key Responsibilities of the Documentation / Configuration Manager:
  • Manage the corporate global documentation and configuration management strategy
  • Identify and leverage best practices and processes in support of the Quality Management System (QMS)
  • Monitor new industry and regulatory agency trends such as emerging standards and regulatory requirements, and new technology opportunities relative to documentation and configuration management
  • Manage the company’s documentation and configuration management system
  • Oversee Configuration Control Boards (CCB) and Functional/Physical Configuration Audits (FCA/PCA)
  • Participate in NPI and sustaining engineering (design change, process change, etc.) projects and other company initiatives to ensure they adhere to and satisfy QMS requirements
  • Ensure configuration management requirements are met for all government and commercial programs
  • Support production and release of internally and externally manufactured products and components
  • Gain cross-business consensus, where possible, to establish new processes and implement effective change management
  • Ensure the documentation and configuration management process is compliant with all applicable industry, local, national and international regulatory requirements and standards
  • Continuously seek innovative ways to improve business productivity through the introduction of new documentation system technologies, methods and controls
  • Deploy good documentation control and configuration management practices
  • Select, implement, train users and manage corporate documentation and configuration management tools
  • Establish product and processes metrics that effectively measure and improve performance
  • Manage needs for full-time or temporary resources based on work level demands and budgetary constraints
  • Develop and effectively manage operating, staffing, and capital projects budgets for area(s) of responsibility
  • Establish and achieve operating objectives and plans
  • Ensure that documentation management professionals are fully competent for their roles, that they are effectively trained, organized and deployed to deliver high quality service to users, meet time commitments and receive appropriate training and mentoring
  • Ensure that direct report(s) are trained and evaluated on their knowledge and adherence to the company's values
Experience & Attributes Required:
  • CM certified or NDIA certification required
  • Experience of managing a small team would be advantageous
