Would you like to work in one for the most beautiful new libraries in Britain? Are you enthusiastic about delivering high quality customer services in a national museum library? This world-famous museum in South Kensington is looking for an experienced team-player to work part-time in its Library in London. You will work 17.5 hours per week. There may be some flexibility as to when these hours are worked, and you would be welcome to discuss this if interviewed.
You will be part of a small team delivering services to library visitors including curators developing new exhibitions. You will answer enquiries, issue and return books and help readers to use catalogues and electronic resources.
The inspiring research centre and library opened in late 2015 and holds a small collection of covering history and biography of science, technology and medicine. But this is less than 1% of the collections! The new Library also provides access to their world-class archives and printed collections transported from the Museum's store at Wroughton, near Swindon.
You will play a pivotal role in providing access to these collections, liaising with colleagues in London and Wroughton to satisfy customer requirements and ensure that the service is maintained to high standards. You will invigilate readers using rare material, ensuring it is securely issued and returned without damage.
You will also support public engagement events in the library, sometimes working out-of-hours.
The salary for this role is £9,000 per annum based on 17.5 hours per week (equivalent to £18,000 per annum for a full-time role). The role will be offered on an initial two-year fixed-term contract.
Application closing date: 20 Nov 2016. Interviews w/c 5th December 2016.
