£24,903 (Inc. 7.5% unsociable hours’ enhancement)

Permanent – Full time (40 hours per week)

Previous experience as a law enforcement officer would be an advantage as would knowledge of the fishing industry.

Inshore Fisheries & Conservation Officer - Role & Responsibilities:

The job holder will undertake an enforcement role within the organisation, both on land and at sea. They will also act as a vessel crew member when required and will contribute to the general maintenance and operation of the organisation’s vessels under the direction of the Senior IFCO. They will seek to ensure that the conservation objectives of any Marine Protected Areas within their area of responsibility are furthered and will take every opportunity to promote the organisation’s reputation and values.

The ideal candidate will have an interest in the marine environment and should possess the following:

  • Be educated to GCSE level in English and Mathematics and / or can demonstrate appropriate literacy and numeracy skills at this level
  • Holds, or has the ability to hold an ENG1 / ML5 seagoing medical certificate
  • Has excellent communication skills
  • Has the motivation and self-discipline to plan and organise own workload
  • An ability to contribute across disciplines in a small team environment
  • Work closely with partner agencies, particularly the Marine Management Organisation in a shared office environment
  • Is computer literate
  • Holds a full UK driving licence
  • Has the right to work in the UK

It is also preferable that the candidate holds appropriate boat handling / seagoing qualifications and has sea going experience. However, full training will be provided for the successful candidate.  

The position will entail a mix of land and sea based activities with occasional overnight assignments.
