We are currently looking for a Principal Design Engineer to work for a major Automotive organisation based in Brighton, West Sussex
Job Title: Principal Design Engineer
Location: Brighton, West Sussex
Salary: GBP Dependent on experience
The Role:
*Our client is looking for an experienced and flexible Principal Design Engineer to join their Engine Design team
*The candidate will be expected to take a lead role on Engine Design programmes and operate with a high degree of autonomy in leading a design team
*Take responsibility for the quality of work undertaken and for the technical delivery to the client to time, cost and quality targets
*The candidate must be pro-active, self-motivated, and capable of working with little supervision and can travel to support the company's Worldwide Client base when required
*It will be necessary for him/her to take the lead role in communicating with the internal project team and directly with the client on a wide range of design and related technical subjects
Key Responsibilities:
*To lead small to medium sized design teams working on internal and client projects on all aspects of engine design
*The candidate will be expected to:
- Produce high quality design solutions associated with the design of all types of internal combustion engine
- Have experience of leading CAD based design teams
- Maintain quality standards for 3D models and manufacturing drawings
- Be responsible for checking and approving models and drawings prior to release to the client
- Maintain a keen awareness of industry trends and new developments in technology across all engine types
- Communicate and present clearly both internally and externally
- Impart knowledge to and develop the junior members of the design department
- Contribute to the ongoing update of the company knowledge database
- Help maintain and develop quality standards and processes
Skills and Experience:
*Preferably a degree in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering (or significant experience in the subject)
*The Principal Designer will have extensive (10-15 years) design experience of either diesel and/or gasoline engines and have experience of both prototype projects and projects which have run through to production and beyond
*The Principal Designer will be a highly motivated self-starter but who will also be able to operate in a team environment
*The candidate should have experience of using one or more of the major 3D CAD systems (ProE CREO, CATIA V5 or UG NX)
*Although regular use of CAD may not be essential, it is useful to be able to interrogate other designers work and therefore CAD experience is a benefit
