What will the role involve?

In this senior role, you will lead and manage the delivery of an audit service to provide assurance to external stakeholders on the effectiveness of governance, risk management and controls across the group. This will include compliance with regulatory and contractual obligations.

Some of the main accountabilities will include:
•Design and deliver an efficient and quality assured audit service to learndirect.
•Champion awareness of audit and its role in the governance of learndirect.
•Lead and motivate a team of auditors to ensure an effective working environment, employee commitment and consistently high performance through mentoring, performance appraisal and staff development.
•Design an audit methodology and annual risk based plan that meets stakeholder requirements, ensuring appropriate coverage of key business risks and controls including assurance that the income claimed by learndirect complies with its funding and contractual obligations.
•Manage and quality assure the work of auditors, including external service providers, to ensure it is delivered to agreed time, cost and quality requirements.
•As subject matter expert, provide advice and guidance to learndirect staff on the evidence requirements to comply with funding / contractual / regulatory obligations and their application across all learndirect operations.
•Embed the detection and analysis of fraud indicators into audit testing programmes and support the undertaking of investigations into fraud or other malpractice, as required.
•Make effective use of data analysis tools and techniques to support audit delivery.
•Design and maintain systems for the accurate recording of audit work and outputs to support effective and timely reporting of audit results, KPI's and staff performance.
•Prepare reports for internal stakeholders, on audit results, analysis and trends to inform risk mitigation by
•Establish credibility and maintain effective relations with external stakeholders including government departments e.g. SFA and DWP.
•Maintain oversight and coordinate the delivery of external audits undertaken by the SFA, DWP and other contracting regulatory bodies, as required.
•As subject matter expert provide advice to the business on risk management and internal control, supporting the development of new business processes and change projects including bids and tender specifications.

What skills, experience, and qualifications are we looking for?
•IIA, CCAB qualification, or equivalent.
•High degree of technical knowledge of audit theory and processes, demonstrated through significant experience of internal or external audit at senior management level.
•Assertive and diplomatic relationship manager, able to deal with stakeholders at all levels, internal and external.
•Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical matters clearly and succinctly.
•Capable planner, able to allocate and manage resources to deliver on target.
•Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
•Effective team leader and staff manager, able to inspire and motivate employees to deliver to the highest standards.
•Able to use initiative to resolve complex problems.
