Dealer (50% of role):

• Routing equity trades in global markets to a number of different brokers and monitoring these brokers to ensure they are executing the order in line with the trade instruction.
• Being familiar with different trade instructions and market terminology, and being able to communicate these effectively to each broker.
• Dealing with Investment Managers and being able to provide advice regarding the best way to trade a security and highlighting any potential issues, such as liquidity constraints.
• Providing daily as well as intra-day market updates to the CIO and investment managers, including key macro news and stock specific news relating to the portfolio.
• Completing post-trade analysis to ensure broker execution is in line with the trade instruction, and querying the broker where there has been poor execution
• Having a detailed understanding of trading practices and operational procedures for a number of different Emerging and Frontier markets, including but not limited to Pakistan, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia and Kenya.
• Keeping up to date with key regulatory information regarding trading in all markets the portfolio is invested in.
• Monitoring security, sector and country weightings within the portfolio, ensuring the portfolio does not breach any investment guidelines and being able to advise Investment Managers if the fund is approaching a possible breach.
• Managing the portfolio cash levels, having an understanding of settlement cycles and markets where you are required to prefund, and ensuring the fund does not go overdrawn.
• Managing the Dealing Group; work with cover dealer and managing the performance and compliance of group.
• Oversee, implement, and monitor Dealing procedures.
• Managing broker relationships, including maintaining existing relationships and on-boarding new brokers. Provide internal feedback on performance of each broker.
• Implement securities and foreign exchange trading in compliance with regulations and internal procedures.
• Trading currency forwards and calculating the cost of carry if the investment team decides to implement a currency hedge.
• Carry out assignments related to Dealing function requested by other members of the firm
• Monitor trading activity for compliance with investment guidelines and any other applicable restrictions.
• Using OMS / EMS system, trade the portfolio as instructed by Investment Management team. This includes ticket generation, sign off, order placement, order management and booking out. Ensure best execution of all securities and foreign exchange trading. In the event that best execution not received, liaise with broker to ensure remedied. Provide analysis to team as required.
• Writing and maintaining market operations notes, keeping up to date of all invested markets on issues such as settlement practices and timelines, market open / close times, market open days (i.e. Gulf nations are open Sunday-Thursday), currency issues and trading methodology, as well as any other market developments.
• Assist with other projects, as required, from time to time.

Project Work (40% role)
• Investment Manager Projects: Working with Investment Managers on new projects, such as back-testing of security performance, security analytics reports, supporting research projects and client presentations. Writing project specification and developing solutions using existing system resources.
• Managing the Investment Screening process, having an understanding of each of the key fundamental ratios and being able to calculate these and present these to the Investment team on a weekly basis to serve as the starting point for identifying potential inclusions to the portfolio.
• Testing security performance vs a number of hypothetical portfolios to test the effectiveness of certain investment decisions and the effect they have had on performance (for example, the performance of an equally weighted portfolio vs the actual portfolio to analyse the effectiveness of portfolio weightings).
• Work with Head of Marketing & Client Services and other operational team members in providing client servicing through email, phone and data provision.
• Producing and understanding key data analytics at both a security and portfolio level, and being able to present this and discuss with Investment Managers and Senior Management
• Producing and managing a quarterly investment manager review, ensuring that portfolio managers are adhering to the underlying investment philosophy and presenting the results of the analysis on a quarterly basis to all investment managers and senior management. Requires an understanding of fundamental ratios, portfolio analysis and behavioral finance.
• Complete operational risk reviews and assist with Compliance projects as directed by the Chief Operating Officer.
• Assist with other ad hoc projects specified by the Chief Operating Officer.

Cover Fund Administration (10% of role):

• Reporting: Produce routine reports using a combination of FactSet, MSCI, Excel, internal investment system and Microsoft Access.
• Reporting: Working with Investment Managers to develop new reports / modify existing reports.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Excel to VBA level is preferable. Knowledge of FactSet would be an advantage.
• Client Reporting: Producing routine client reports covering investment analytics and stock portfolio performance. Produce quarterly marketing and client books, support newsletter preparation and other ad hoc client requests.
• Core Administration: Provide cover/support for trade ticket generation, settlement, cash management, corporate actions and proxy voting, withholding tax reclaims and investment guideline compliance.
• Fund Monitoring: Maintaining internal records for client values and performance, including internal monitoring spreadsheet. Check against Fund Administrator records on a monthly basis.

Required Skills:
• Degree at minimum of 2:1 or equivalent in relevant subject
• Obtained at least CFA Level 1 designate
• Passed relevant CISI trading exams
• Passed CISI IOC exams
• Signed off as CF30 by FCA
• Experience trading equity directly in frontier, emerging and standalone markets, in particular directly trading with Saudi Arabia
• Experience in client service, operations, office management and fund administration a benefit
• High level of expertise in using Indata iPM EPIC trade and order management system, Bloomberg, FactSet, all Office programs including Excel to VBA standard
