Chief Executive Officer, Intellectual Property Office
Salary: c.£100,000
Location: Newport NP10 8QQ
Closes: 09.00, 05 December 2016
Job Function: Chief Executive
Industry: Public
The Intellectual Property Office (IPO) is recruiting a new Chief Executive Officer.
The Government’s manifesto commitment is that Britain will be the best place in Europe to innovate, patent new ideas and set up and expand a business. The CEO of the IPO will be fundamental to the UK’s ability to secure economic growth and productivity, and to achieving the Prime Minister’s vision of an economy “that works for everybody”. Furthermore, this active domestic agenda needs to go hand in hand with helping to define a new UK-led landscape once the UK has left the EU, in an area where the EU has had significant competence.
The CEO will make a direct contribution to this work, being responsible for the effective strategy and day-to-day operation of the organisation, acting as both Accounting Officer and Comptroller-General. With a budget of £84 million, they will lead an organisation of over 1,100 people, providing strong and visible leadership while working closely with a team of Directors to shape policy, maintaining the IPO’s reputation and delivery, as well as feeding into the development of Intellectual Property frameworks worldwide.
This role requires strong leadership and high levels of energy and resilience, as well as solid commercial, analytical and strategic skills. A background in IP is not an essential requirement for this role – rather, we are looking for candidates who can adapt quickly and flex to new and technical environments. Therefore, if you have the skills outlined above, and would relish the challenge of representing the IPO on the national and international stage, we would be very interested in hearing from you.
