Head Buyer (Purchasing, Construction, Manager) BLUH42509

Rochdale

£35,000 - £40,000 depending on experience

Our client is a group of companies and is well established within the construction and environmental sectors and operates through five main divisions.  Their activities span construction, land reclamation, public realm and environmental works, developments, and plant hire and service.

They now have an opportunity available for a Head Buyer to join them to manage and implement material buying operations across the Group of Companies incorporating New Build Housing, Refurbishment, General Contracting, Land Reclamation and Environmental works.

Within the role, you will agree costs, specification detail, delivery, and quantities for all contractual material requirements.  Striving for continual improvement in purchasing and procurement procedures and systems to streamline efficiencies, you will be responsible for completing and issuing all documentation from enquiry through to material purchase orders.

In addition, you will expedite deliveries and quotations, and will contribute to monthly cost reporting and be responsible for material purchases as a cost centre.  You will also review, analyse, and offer alternative products prioritising cost savings and maximising site logistics and contract delivery.

Candidates for this role must have excellent relationship management skills, be comfortable working within a cross functional / matrix style management structure and have strong supplier sourcing skills.

It is also essential that you have a broad depth of knowledge attained from working within the Construction and associated sectors, in particular a strong technical insight focusing on materials, products, and services and the understanding of the impact of the procurement process on contract success. Experience working as a purchasing manager within the sector would be preferable.  You should also have a proven ability to head up and develop a small departmental team in terms of managing personnel.  An adaptable, flexible, and conscientious approach to work is also important.

The role demands an individual whom, whilst retaining the desire to be involved within the business at a strategic level, is comfortable and motivated enough to give full attention to day-to-day activities and sees this as priority in the short term.
