This is an opportunity to join a distributor of electronics components, based in York with offices in Italy, China, Canada and USA. They are looking for an Senior Buyer to join their expanding Purchasing Team.

The Role

To work within the purchasing department sourcing, negotiating and purchasing Electronic Components from approved suppliers against requirements from customers through the sales department.

Principle Responsibilities

- Use company sourcing tools and online search engines to source customer enquiries both in the UK and overseas.
- When necessary use initiative to go that extra step when searching for difficult requirements. Think laterally and go the extra mile to ensure that all avenues are explored.
- Investigate options to offer alternatives that might help fulfil customer requirements.
- Liaise closely with sales to ensure enquires have all the complete information required to be able to offer customers accurate quotations.
- Negotiate with suppliers to ensure best price and delivery.
- Complete contract review before placing any orders.
- Develop and build strong supplier relationships and actively work to expand the vendor base.
- Place purchase orders on suppliers within your designated approval limit and monitor supplier acknowledgements and deliveries to ensure customers needs are met.
- Communicate effectively to sales and the Head of Purchasing on any issues regarding enquiries or orders. Work pro-actively to ensure they are resolved quickly and effectively with minimal impact.
- Assist with training any staff new to purchasing on company sourcing tools and company systems.
- Cover for other team members in their absence.
- Assist with any other duties as required.

Knowledge and Skills

- 2 years + buying experience preferably in the electronics sector (salary dependant on experience)
- Conscientious and pro-active in your approach to work
- Strong Negotiator
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Have a strong attention to detail
- Be flexible and open to new ideas
- Able to think laterally to maximise all opportunities
- Can work under pressure and good problem solving skills
- Will manage own workload and prioritise effectively
- Team player able to work successfully to achieve company objectives
