About the Lead Nursery Practitioner Role
- You will provide leadership and direction for the room in keeping with the Group’s aims and objectives
- You will develop the highest standards of care and learning, and lead by example to further develop standards
- You will take a lead role in overseeing the day to day management, staffing, organisation and smooth running of the room, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements
- You will take lead responsibility for the practitioners, provision and children within the room feeding back key strengths and areas for development to the Senior Nursery Team
What you’ll be doing as our Lead Nursery Practitioner:
Leadership and Management:
- Translate the aims, ethos and strategic vision for the Nursery Group into practice within the Nursery
- Lead the team within the room to understand and implement objectives and key focus areas
- Promote and deliver the EYFS aims and ethos within the setting
- Ensure that each child has up to date records of their day to day activities and development
- Arrange inductions for new parents highlighting relevant information and support available from the setting and other agencies where appropriate
- Observe and identify children who may potentially have special educational needs
- Develop positive and constructive relationships with the Head, Senior Leaders, Nursery Manager, Nursery community, stakeholders and outside agencies
- Attend regular appraisal meetings, staff meetings, management meetings and training which may be out of hours
- Understand occupancy levels within the room to ensure that they are maximised and work in partnership to proactively market the Nursery
- Administer all medication within the nursery ensuring the associated procedure is followed at all times
- Lead and ensure that Welfare and Safeguarding Children procedures are followed and all staff know what to do in the event of an allegation or disclosure being made
What we’re looking for in our Lead Nursery Practitioner:
The ideal applicant will have the below competencies:
- NVQ Level 3 in Childcare, or equivalent
- Experience of leading a team to make effective observations and maintaining individual learning journals highlighting progression
- Proven knowledge of the EYFS Statutory Framework, and Ofsted inspections and requirements
- Broad understanding of children’s development and all aspects of child safeguarding
- Experience of providing personal care to children and recognizing their individual needs
- Knowledge and understanding of diversity and equality, health and safety & the importance of confidentiality
- Previous experience of understanding and meeting the needs of specific families
