JOB TITLE: Arable / Spray Operator

WORKING HOURS: Likely to be Monday - Thursday 7:30am - 5pm and Friday 7:30am - Must be flexible to suit business needs.
THE COMPANY: Our clients own various farms and estates within the region. The successful applicants will work on the farm which is also well-established commercial business which is part of a wider business. The farm has 2,300 acres of arable land in South Lincolnshire.
THE ROLE: Reporting to the Arable Manager this position will be based at the Humby Estate within the Arable Team. This role requires working flexible hours based around the jobs that need completing at different times of the year.
Key Responsibilities of an Arable / Spray Operator to include:-
• To carry out efficiently ploughing and cultivations including drilling, combining, fertilising, carting grain, baling and loading lorries
• To carry out efficiently the cleaning out of livestock housing and manure/slurry spreading, straw carting, fertilising, re-seeding and silaging
• To provide occasional help with cattle handling/feeding etc.
• To carry out efficiently basic machinery maintenance and other general farm duties e.g. working in grain store, fencing, buildings' maintenance
• Operate or tend equipment used in agricultural production, such as tractors, combines, and irrigation equipment
• Manipulate controls to set, activate, and adjust mechanisms on machinery
• Observe and listen to machinery operation to detect equipment malfunctions
• Attach farm implements such as plows, discs, sprayers, or harvesters to tractors, using bolts and hand tools
• Adjust, repair, and service farm machinery and notify supervisors when machinery malfunctions
• Operate towed machines such as seed drills or manure spreaders to plant, fertilize, dust, and spray crops
• Load hoppers, containers, or conveyors to feed machines with products, using forklifts, transfer augers
• Spray fertiliser or pesticide solutions to control insects, fungus and weed growth, and diseases using self - propelled sprayer and hand sprayers
• Mix specified materials or chemicals, and dump solutions, powders, or seeds into planter or sprayer machinery
• Load and unload crops or containers of materials, manually or using conveyors, handtrucks, forklifts, or transfer augers
• Weigh crop-filled containers, and record weights and other identifying information
Key experience essential for the role of Arable / Spray Operator based in Grantham:
• The successful Arable / Spray Operator will have previous experience of farm work as a tractor driver
• Experience of ploughing, drilling, harvesting (including combining), fertilising (including relevant record-keeping)
• PA1, PA2 certificates are essential
• Qualified to use telescopic loader
• A basic knowledge of farm management responsibilities and compliance issues
• Current UK driving licence
